Caught the bug!

Hi all,

I did my local parkrun this morning. The first K I did very slow as I was keeping a friends daughter company. I then left her on her first walking section and kept going at about my average speed, nothing too strenuous. Even though I took my time I still did it in 38:38. If I set out with all guns blazing I could have had a PB! I'm happy with what I did. I'm more relaxed about times these days. Just starting to really enjoy running. I'm doing it because I want to, not to compete against anyone really or for PB's. Finally have the bug!! I've been waiting a long time to catch it!

Brilliant. Really well done. Once you catch the bug, it's usually forever.

I had the bug before but injury got in the way. Took a lot longer this time. Was getting worried! Last time I was hooked by W3!

Happy I got it now!

Thanks for posting about your first park run and really glad you enjoyed it. its something that I've been thinking about signing up for in the longer term. I'm only on week 7 but I'm being positive about completing the programme and looking for the next challenge so it's good to hear of people's experiences.

I've done a few parkruns. I graduated and times it for my first parkrun to be my graduation run. I just seemed to find running was effort and struggled along but my last three runs have made me feel amazing and I enjoyed myself for the first time too. Just took a long time to catch the bug!

Well done and glad you're loving it. How did the Swansea 5k go by the way? And which parkrun do you go to? I've been looking for one but could only find Porthcawl last time I looked - too far to go on a Sat morning by 9am!

Porthcawl I go to! They are doing a Tenby but that's much further and hillier! I Struggled on Swansea. I went to the physio a few days later. My ligaments were badly knotted. I cried my way around but still finished without stopping. Not my worst time either. Did you look into the club in Singleton?

No not yet - may not do it until autumn as I'll be to-ing a fro-ing a bit over the summer. Well done on doing the 5k, sorry it was so miserable - have you sorted the ligaments now? I got back to training after my injury and am back on track to do the half marathon in 2 weeks time, getting nervous already. I ran 12 miles on Sat as my last long run and it nearly killed me - it was sooooo hard. Starting to not enjoy it as much I was and after it's done I think I'll be dropping the mileage right back again for a bit of a rest! May try and get up early and get to Porthcawl though - will let you know if I do,
