I'm a parkrunner!

I did my fourth parkrun yesterday morning in Ashford, Kent, and what a brilliant parkrun it is. When I'd graduated from C25K I looked at parkruns but there wasn't one near me and I hadn't realised that this one had started since.

Four weeks ago there were 123 runners and I came 112th with 37:36. I've gradually had a PB each week and yesterday I came 119th out of 143 runners with a time of 35:55. I'm aiming at sub 35 minutes.

I'll never be quick but at least I'm the fastest old lady!

Good time gingernut. I'd be more than happy with that. I'm thinking of braving our local Parkrun for the first time next weekend but no way will I be the fastest old lady there : D

I hadn't dared do it previously as I thought I'd be too slow, but it chivvies me along not wanting to be last or just trying to catch up with someone in front. I never thought I'd be racing at 64!

you are fantastic, well done.

He he!!! _ Just think what else you could be doing at 64!!! :)

And there is a benefit to being older -- I ALWAYS come first in my age group at Parkrun :) But there are some Parkruns that I avoid!! :(

Well done, good time too. Park runs sound good, but we don't have them here.

Fantastic! Parkrun is amazing isn't it! The founder really deserves his CBE! Parkrun in Hull started 4 years ago and now we have 3 in the area! I did my first yesterday! And only brisk walked 4 1/2 minutes of it! CONGRATULATIONS on your PB's :-)

Where I am in the area just south of Brisbane, Australia - it is almost getting a bit silly. There are now 3 Parkruns in my local Council area -- and another 5-6 within driving distance. I hope it doesn't all "flame out" !!!

I agree, you wouldn't want it to get silly! Our original parkrun was getting so popular with nearly 500 runners at one time! The 2nd run opened across the city to add some balance. The 3rd is only 2 weeks old and is set in a country park just outside the city. Nice to have a choice but don't want overkill! There was 436 runners yesterday at the one I did!

Well done gingernut ! It's great you are improving each week and enjoying the experience of running with others.

No Parkruns where I am...but I'd be a bit chicken anyway I think, sure I'd be the slowest :(

Great times Gingernut, Have look at your age grading too. I bet you have a higher score than many around you. Now I have softened you up...the proposition......Would you consider being on the shortlist for being our poster girl? I think the story of the lady who started running at 63 and then started racing at 64 is inspirational. Give it some thought and get back to me. You can PM me if you prefer.

Of course!

My age grade is 56.43 % - though I'm not 100% sure what that means, even though I've read the explanation!

IannodaTruffe profile image

It means you are running at 56.43% of the pace of the world record for 5k by a woman in your age range. Pretty good I would say, for someone who has not been running all their life.

Love your enthusiasm for the poster. I will be in touch, but please be patient, I have to work as well.

Come on misswobble, once you have your big race out of the way, you must try Parkrun. It is the next best thing to.............well let's say C25k.
