To upgrade my HealthUnlocked account or not?

I've read a few less than complimentary comments about the new 'improved' upgraded system on here. I'm still on the old one, is it worth making the leap now? What's new/good/bad/indifferent about the new version?

Thanks :-)

Hello :)

I'd say it's one of things you may as well do sooner rather than later as the old format will be phased out at some point. I can be really change averse normally but I actually quite like it. It feels a bit fresher and more spacey than the old one. I also like the new fancy user profiles.

Only strange changes are there is no differentiation between the 'Questions' and 'Posts' sections as before. Another thing i noticed is there doesn't seem to be the facility to preview your posts before submitting them any more which I always used to use as a final typo filter. Although you can edit them after submission.

I think during the change over some notifications did get lost etc, but apart from that I can't see any major negatives. Try it and see!

Thanks, I'm change averse too ;-) fancy user profiles sounds intriguing I may just give it a whirl...

On my iPad the new one seems great, only I can't upload a new profile picture :/

On my laptop it just seemed confusing.

But like anything change is different and then we get used to it

Last time it changed it took me weeks to get used to it, loads of regulars gave up and left, although long term it's better IMHO. Hmmm, dithering over the upgrade button of no return....

The only thing that I really dislike about the new site is one functionality aspect: the fact that you can no longer sort your (or others people's) posts from 'general activity'. So you can't see your running blogs all in one place any more, all you get is a long news feed of everything you've ever written/answered etc.

The other changes are just window dressing as far as I can tell. That said I'm still 'testing' the beta version, apparently - I haven't been given the option to upgrade to the live site.

Thanks TT, I just pressed upgrade and I think I'm on the live site. Yes, it seems mostly window dressing, I see what you mean about losing the option to view your own blogs & questions separately, that's a miss. Looks a bit spaced out somehow (or is that just me :-D ). Must find a photo for my profile banner, I like that option.

I agree, TT, that really a failing and I have sent suggestions twice while beta testing, about the ability to browse posts as opposed to activity. There is a feedback forum at healthunlocked.uservoice.com/ where you can vote on the suggestions, and I would urge everyone to vote for this, otherwise we will never be able to find our old posts, or other people's.

Otherwise they have not improved functionality, just adhered to the latest design aesthetics, which obviously means loads of white space.......but to be fair, this may help with the tablet/phone version.

I'm still on the old one as I don't know how to upgrade! I see the blue bar appear at the top when I log in but it dissapears before I can even click on it. This happens on my ipad/iphone and my PC.

Ha, just upgraded on my iPhone as the link stayed visible. Hmm, don't like it!

Weird, I upgraded but when I logged out and logged in again I was back on the old site and asked if I wanted to upgrade again. Hmmm, fun and games.

I've gone over now. I got tricked hehe. Admin sent me an email about the new site and it said have a look, so here I am. I don't find it too bad. I spent a while just going through everything and the thing I like the most is not having to wait ages for the longer posts to update as they load straight away, which is great.

I posted a question 4 days ago for info re any anomalies after the last big change over when I lost contact for about 3 weeks (I got no replies) I'm hanging on with old version for now until I can be assured I'm not going to encounter the same problems. Not sure that mixing 'Questions and Posts' is a good idea either.

I was beta testing Oldgirl, and mentioned the posts/questions thing in my feedback. You can still mark a a post as a question when you create it, but can't tell which is which in the news feed. Seems a bit of an oversight to me. I suggested they add a little question mark icon or something similar to distinguish them. As for feedback I do hope they are taking all the users' comments on board and there's still some room for development in the new site.

Thanks for that TT. I'm a bit concerned that having used this site for over 3 years now that the first place I go to is the 'Questions' section just in case a new runner has an important or even urgent query that needs reassurance/answers. Its obvious that a new runner needs the reassurance of the more experienced and knowing that others are there to support is a huge bonus. These questions are going to be so easily lost on a busy forum. :(

This rehash is for all the HU communities. I suspect that ours is a lot busier than many, which meant having separate post and question sections made it much quicker to check through new posts. There is a forum where you can view and vote on suggestions that were made by beta testers at healthunlocked.uservoice.com/ Please, everyone have a look and vote for those things we are missing.

Very good call IdT - we need to call on some people power to vote for these important missing functions. I wasn't aware of that separate feedback forum, so thanks for highlighting that. Would it be too cheeky to ask one of the most-read members here to act as spokesperson (perhaps you IdT, or Oldgirl, or RFC as she is administrator?) to write a post pointing out these shortcomings on the new site and directing people to the voting page so we can do something about it?

Oldgirl profile image
OldgirlGraduate in reply to TurboTortoise

I think it would be best if RFC did this as an Administrator they may respond quicker for a start. Sorry RFC if this puts pressure on you. (only my opinion of course)

Hi OG, having just looked at the feedback forum that IdT highlighted, this issue has come up and HU say they are going to address it... this is their answer:

Hello,

Under the hood we will be able to more powerfully provide relevant content to users using this difference. We aim to offer some immediate visual benefits to choosing between the two soon.

Have a nice day!

'Under the hood'? Interesting phrase don't you think? ;-)

Under the hood? Maybe they're car mechanics or perhaps they're going to look under our hats. :)

TurboTortoise profile image
TurboTortoiseGraduate in reply to AncientMum

It's probably new corporate jargon, which means actioning some blue-sky thinking and giving 110% at the end of the day, going forward.

AncientMum profile image

:) :) Not forgetting to run it up the flagpole to see who salutes.

Oldgirl profile image
OldgirlGraduate in reply to AncientMum

That sounds promising!!!!!! (I think). Under the Hood probably means that we will never be able to identify anyone, as in Hoodies ;)

Call me a coward but I'm hanging on to the old site for now. However can anyone answer me this? If I upgrade my phone to the new version does that upgrade just that phone or does it upgrade my sign on / account ? Or will my laptop still remain old version until upgraded?

TurboTortoise profile image
TurboTortoiseGraduate in reply to Oldgirl

Yes! You can upgrade on your phone but it won't affect your laptop - I have the new version on my Mac but am hanging onto the old site on my laptop pc, for now. And if you clear all your cookies/cache or open another browser it will revert to the old site.

Brilliant thanks TT will give it a go in the morning, off to bed in a mo :) Good night all.

Well this morning I have upgraded my phone to new version. thanks TT you were spot on with your info. Its OK but will hold off doing my laptop for now. What it did bring home to me though is my profile is well out of date!!! Had never given it much thought since I updated and I hang my head in shame that was done 2012, oooopppps. Will get around to doing something one of these days.
