A Wedding Day Run In Central Park

Not my wedding!! My nephew and his new wife have just got married in New York - no connections to the US, just wanted to do something different. So off we all went.

As he is the only other member of my family who runs, I rang him about a week before to say "are you taking your running stuff?" The only spare time we had was early on the day of the wedding, so we set off to Central Park at 07.30 am. Even at that time it was incredibly hot and humid and we limited ourselves to just one lap of the Jackie Onassis reservoir which has a running track around it. So only just over 1.5 miles. Really large numbers of other runners around and great skyscraper views to distract us. Then back on the rush hour subway in sweaty running gear.

Few hours later we were back to the park for the ceremony and later great views from the Top of the Rock and we could point out to everyone where we had run. Not a very long run but hopefully a great wedding day memory for my nephew and something else I never have imagined possible before C25K

That sounds fantastic , I have been to the reservoir a couple of times , but never to run , I wanted to when we visited this year but couldn't because of a injury I was gutted . Sounds like it was a great day & a very memorable one .

I remember you posting you wanted to run there - good excuse to go back again and may do longer than us if it is less humid.

Have you ever watched the movie marathon man ? The opening scene is Dustin Hoffman running around that reservoir .

I did read that in the guide book last week. I shall have to watch it again on dvd - and fast forward all the dental bits!

A fantastic memory for the future. I did a run in Central Park last year on my fiftieth birthday - it helped me feel good about the day.

Worth cramming them in somewhere just in case - and worth an early start to beat the heat.
