Out with the Old, in with the New

W4r2 completed today, and I felt splendidly great.

I have new 'running' shoes to thank. Last week I started to feel some pain in my shins, and had my gait analysed. Apparently I am a 'natural' runner, but tended to land heavily. The shop showed me how to run with a shorter stride, land on my midsole and be more stealthy in my running.

Result - new PB compared to W4r1, no pain in my shins and loving my running! Come on Saturday, I want to go out again. Loving this new 'stealthy' style of running, it is much quieter.

I was told to concentrate on running "quietly" and making sure that my feet did not bang the ground. By making my stride shorter (than I thought it needed to be) I'm more in control of putting my foot down. It is really hard to explain, but take your headphones off, and imagine being an assassin running up behind your victim as quietly as possible. That will shorten your stride: see if it helps your shins.

'Stealth' was the word used in the shop to convey this style of running for beginners.

I love your new shoes. Paula Radcliffe wears em too, as does the 86 year old lady marathon runner, but I think from looking at a picture, she wears an earlier version

They look the bees knees. It's such a shame to get em mucky.

Wow, they look amazing! So glad that you got some good advice and a PB too. It does seem a shame to get them dirty. Good luck with the end of W4, you're doing so well :)

They are very bright, aren't they? The shop offered me sunglasses. I don't mind if they get dirty, they need to be worn in all weathers now, and they are helping my running. Can't wait for W4r3 on Saturday....

Wow, loving these. Am also thinking of getting my gait measured but am slightly apprehensive about running on a treadmill or around a shop without people laughing at me!! A pair of these could sway that thought though. Good luck for W4R3 on Saturday x

Hi Lorriane, don't worry about popping into your local running store and having your gait analysed. A proper running shop is going to be staffed by friendly runners. They're not going to laugh at you... they'll be pleased that you are visiting. Give it a go!
