So, moved quietly onto week 5 today. Marvellous, if expensive, running shoes on and oh so comfy! River beautiful, will post a pic as soon as I get my 8 year old daughter to show me how to get it off my iPhone!

Interesting point I noticed on today's podcast - laura talked about when she 'did the program' but if she was 'doing the program' who on earth was doing the podcasts!?! All very schroedinger's cat if you ask me!

Anyway, mental musings aside. All goes well and moving on apace. Definitely feeling fitter, more toned, dare I say more confident....... Yep I dare!

You are all excellent encouraging people and thanks to you I am getting close to being a runner!

Out of curiosity during the podcast I am doing about 4.5k including warm up and down walks, at about 8.2 mins per k. Is this about on course to eventually get to 5k in the magic 30 mins? Not too fussed just wondered how average or not that kind of time is?

Have a great day all

Em

Morning Em!

How would be manage our gadgets without our children i ask?!?

Not really sure about your time/distance BUT, as i travel a similar, actually slightly shorter, distance during a podcast i'll say YEP! Great stuff, definitely on target!!! (me = W4R1 done)

Anyway, what i really wanted to do was thank you for the intro to Schrodinger ... shame on me i'd never heard of him or his cat until you introduced us .... now i'm going to ponder the question as i slog through my run tomorrow! Perfect distraction!

"It is typical of these cases that an indeterminacy originally restricted to the atomic domain becomes transformed into macroscopic indeterminacy, which can then be resolved by direct observation. That prevents us from so naively accepting as valid a "blurred model" for representing reality. In itself, it would not embody anything unclear or contradictory. There is a difference between a shaky or out-of-focus photograph and a snapshot of clouds and fog banks."

(translated by John D. Trimmer in Proceedings of the American Philosophical Society)

Yeah, thanks Em, makes a change from deciding what i'll cook for dinner as i run!!! :-)

Hee hee, i love that you found that!!! Yep schrody and his cat give my best friend and I much amusement. A bit like the motorway sign that says 'this sign is not in use' wrap your head round that if you can!!!!!!

Metaphysics and philosophy, the perfect running companions!

I think wrapping my head round a motorway sign could be the only way to understand truly what the cat thing is teaching me!!! Maybe after a few runs (in open areas - no trees!) i'll have stepped a little closer! :-)

Wow.

I think if I started to think about things like that I would run into a tree!!

Ahh yes I think you'll find that heisenberg's principle of uncertainty deals with the tricky question of running, thinking and the likelihood of being attacked by stationary objects!

Walter White's Heisenberg??? I am clearly living a really shallow life :-)

Ah, that is exactly how I discovered Heisenberg!! Bb the most addictive program on the planet!

There is an excellent post on here today by 'blunta W6 R1' which I think deserves to be read by anyone concerned about time or distance. The focus is to build up stamina to be running 30 minutes during week 9 - it doesn't need to be a 5K distance, most people work on that after graduation. Cheers.

That pace is perfectly fine - not that you should be worrying about it now (or ever really). If you're averaging 8.2km/h then you'd do 5k in 40 minutes... if you exclude the 10 mins walking at let's say 12km/h then you'll find you're running at about 6-7km/h... which is a pretty cracking pace for so early in the programme!

Good luck on Week 5 - and enjoy Run 3 ... it's a huge milestone and you can do it!
