I think you should run empty handed as at times you might like to let your arms relax and then shake them out. It allows your shoulders to drop and for everything to relax. Keep your arms low as you run, sort of waist height, don't bring them up like a boxer.

Weight training is good for runners so you could lift weights on your off days. Not talking power lifting here or anything mind you. I use Jillian Michaels workout vids with hand weights etc

Thanks for that - it makes sense - once I graduate (!!) - I probably need to incorporate some weight training into my week.

You could try weighted wristbands? I have seen them but not used them so can't advise if they are any good.

I have found that when I have tried to do some up hill running I really feel it in my arms the next day. I am rubbish at running hills so I pump my arms back and forth to try to encourage my legs to get me up the hill. :)

Good luck!

If you are still in the throes of C25k then I would recommend that you keep everything as simple as possible. Your body is being asked to exercise in ways that it has not been used to, so don't add extra complications or you are more likely to develop sprains and strains. Once you are well past graduation and eased off the increasing demands on yourself it might be time to introduce the weights.
