Success! Small Steps = Big Changes

I joined here last week to find support for my husbands COPD and found so much more. I read some very inspirational stories of people with COPD completing couch to 5K and liked the chance to do it myself to help with my weightloss and suggested it to the hubby. He was very reluctant at first but I showed him some of the stories on here so he said he'd try. Well it may only be about 30 seconds but he actually ran with me yesterday! His recovery time wasn't brilliant but he ran and he enjoyed it. This is very much a happy dance moment for me as he has been very down lately but since then he has perked up quite a bit. Hopefully we'll get a few more running bursts this week too. I'd like to try and build him up over the next few weeks so he's more prepared to officially start week 1. :D

great! Good news! Keep running :)

I remember your first post and am so pleased that this site has come through for you - not that I doubted it. How wonderful that your husband decided to give it a go with you - even 30 seconds of running is a start for him. Just take it slow and steady, he can build up at an even slower pace (shorter run intervals) and just see how it goes. Good luck to you both and my very best wishes.

One of the initially less obvious effects of running is the mood enhancing. I am sure this can work, regardless of the time or distance you run. It is an incontrovertible fact that exercise is good for the psyche, so I hope that both you and your husband can gain from this. Don't get too hung up on targets to start with, but adapt the programme to work for you both. Wishing you both the very best of luck. Keep us posted.

Thank you for all your comments, it gives a real boost having support. I'm going to be investing in some running shoes soon I think :)
