It's only taken me 14 months...

...since joining to actually make a start! I don't like to rush these things! W1R1 was done on Tuesday. I'm 42 and about 4 stone overweight. I used to run regularly 3 times a week (3-5 miles) but that counts for nothing these days so I really am starting from scratch.

Luckily I'm able to walk off my estate during the warm up, so the neighbours don't see me. I then make my way to a nature trail so I can bumble along, gasping for breath and looking for a hole to swallow me up - safe in the knowledge that it will only be the hardened dog walkers who get the full experience of me thundering along like a wheezing, red faced baby elephant!

The dog walkers have now had this pleasure twice as W1R2 was completed yesterday evening. It felt just as bad as run 1 but I did it and I'll be thankful for that. Run 3 tomorrow - and week 1 done! Bring it on! ( that's just for effect to make me feel all positive when what I actually want to do is curl up and sleep!). Tootle on!

Ha! I've just done w1r2 this morning and I'm sure people must hear me breathing/gasping a mile away!! I have found that doing it at 6.30 in the morning though, there are very few to no people about to get an shock :-D

I like the idea of a 6.30 run and I suppose now it's light in the mornings no one could mistake me for a wild animal about to charge! Well done on getting w1R2 done. Soon be onto Week 2! I'm sure there will be less gasping by then!

You won't bother a stuff what people think when you get into your running stride. You'll think to hell with em. They would love to be running too but haven't got your guts

You've made the right decision to start the programme. Stick with it and you will get healthier and lose weight. It won't happen over night so you have to keep going. Combine your runs with healthy eating and you'll be successful. It's fun too!

Well done! sounds like you have made a great start, i used to run along back lanes to farm on those first weeks! You can do it though, definitely"bring it on"!! i'm nearly the same age as you and started in January, its really has made a good difference to me :)

I always thought I looked a bit like one of those dancing Hippos in Fantasia! Don't you worry about it at all, I need to lose another 2 stone but I can now run 30mins, which is something I could never do before and a lot of my lovely svelte friends still can't. Be brave and be proud :)

Well done for getting started. Stick with it now and you will gradually start to feel the benefits. Good luck with R3 and best wishes.
