Achy, tired but happy after my first race.

I've just completed my first race. A 10k in aid of Wakefield hospice and it was brilliant. I managed 1hr 16minutes which for a 61 nearly 62 year old grandma ain't too shabby. I took the advice of experienced runners and didn't set off too fast and a lot of people who passed me struggled , and I passed them later on so the best advice, pace yourself. I thouroughly enjoyed it and although it wasn't about speed it was nice not to be last. Bring on the next one can't wait !:-)

Thanks it was very emotional, grandson cheering me over the line and me with goosebumps and tears in my eyes, didn't cry but nearly, hopefully next run goosebumps but no tears, nice feeling though:-)

Thank you. Just pick a goal and go for it. I started running last June then had to stop sept til Jan due to angina scare and lost motivation a bit. So I found a race so it spurred me on and it got me training again. I only wanted to finish but got the bug now and I'm looking for my next race so pick your goal and aim for it any things achievable even at my age.:-)

Thank you I'm sure you will I didn't know what to expect , there are so many runners and when people thunder past you its a bit daunting but the advise I followed was don't try to keep up with the big boys! Stick to your own pace and when your near the finish pick someone in front to catch, it doesn't matter if you don't but it gives you focus and it helped me speed up at the end and it shouldn't be so overwhelming next time:-)

Well done, a well deserved success. Enjoy a decent rest now and pamper yourself. With very best wishes.

Good advise just running a five shots of bubble bath soak, extravagant on the bubble but I don't care, thanks for the best wishes xx

Congratulations!

Really lovely post and a great time! I did a 10k today as well; 63 mins so you weren't far off me at all and I'm half your age! Serious respect to you; you're an inspiration!

Aw thanks for that, my grandson said I'd inspired him to run too. He managed til we got home then plugged himself into his mine craft game on his tablet and that was that!! So I'm glad your keener than he is well done I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did:-)
