Morning everybody,

I've been a lurker for some time & thought it was about time I said HELLLLOOOOOOO :) :) :) ***waves at you all like a crazy lady***

I've been doing the couch25k for what feels like forever (illness breaks/poorly kids/night shifts/dog chewed my laces) ;) & all the other excuses.

Anyway I am up to week 7 day 3 & I now have poxy shin splints (oucccchhhie) so resting up for a few days.

I am doing the London Electric run 3 weeks today & feel sooooo nervous just at the thought of it. I really don't feel I will ever be able to run the whole thing (5k).

Anyway you seem like a lovely bunch so I look forward to getting to know u all.

Oh a bit about me I am 28, getting married in Greece nxt yr, have 2 children & now have the running bug ;) xxx

Hi thinlizzylwish123,

Lol I think most hubby's are the same. He's supportive until I run out the door the second he walks in from work ;)

I see you're a graduate. Well done :) xxx

Oooooh thank you - Graduated three weeks ago. :-D I'm regularly doing 5K runs, working to complete the other 5+podcasts. I've ran one park run in 36 mins which I've been really chuffed about. Committed to running. I've got a race Scheduled for June 1st - just a colour blast fun run. Commited to shift my weight and to achieve some personal goals. Yep and I'm 36yrs old (nrly 37). :-D

Hi Snowflake and welcome to the forum! :) i like your intro! you have done really well to get to the end of week 7, i've never had shin splints but they don't sound like fun! But the electric run sounds like a it should be really good so keep that in your sights and i'm sure you don't have to worry about running all the way, though you sound like you're doping fine! I've just done my 5th parkrun today! graduated 4 weeks ago................ I'm 43, never been into running before so its a new thing for me, no kids just my boyfriend and jolly dog George so no excuse for dipping out of any runs really, tho only managed 2 this week! :(

Hi aliboo70,

Ah thx for that. I was talking to my trainer the other day who said it's where the muscle tears away from the bone. So having to reluctantly rest, do lots of stretching & apply ice

Thx juicyju. I'm looking forward to the fun of it but pooping myself about the actual run :/ arghhhhhh xxx

Hi snowflake, welcome to the forum! Sounds like you're getting on well despite the setbacks; and really, these things are the stuff of life so if you can fit running in when it all goes a bit chaotic then you'll have more chance of sticking to running long after week 9 (provided you want to that is!).

In answer to your questions, Parkruns are FREE, 5k timed runs which are organised by local volunteers. They are great as there is no official 'race mentality (though if people want to do that they can); there's people of all ages, shapes and sizes who do them. The website is here... parkrun.org.uk/

Speed, stamina and stepping stones are all follow on podcasts to C25k, all still with Laura's encouraging words to get you running faster, for longer etc if you want. Definitely check them out when you graduate. The website is here... nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...

As for your upcoming 5k, you will be GREAT! Of course you'll be nervous, it means you care about it and have worked hard towards it, but most likely you'll be able to channel that nervousness into adrenaline for the race. The most important thing is to have fun and as it's going to be your first one, not get too hung up on times etc. Start off slowly - it's easy to get swept along with the crowds and then get puffed out - and you'll be just fine. Let us know how you get on and also, about the all important graduation run.

Good luck!

Hi NewbieRunner,

Thank you for your lovely reply. Awwww yeah I know what you mean now with the park run. Think we have one locally. Think I'll have to give it a go ☺️ Ill have a look into the new podcasts. I'm sure I'll be fine as I'm doing it with a group of madwives (midwives

Welcome to the forum and well done for getting so far with the programme. I'm sure you will be fine on the 5K run - I'm doing R4L in June and I shall probably walk some of it, depending how I progress between now and then. I'm just about to start Week 7 on Monday. Good luck and best wishes.

***waves back***

Hi, well done on achieving so much. You will be qs good as new in no time.

I am 47 and not run since my teen years at school but committed to getting fit. Hubby is supportive and has his own hobbies which leaves me free to persue mine. Did I say running was my hobby? OMG!!!! :D

in reply to kickibro

Hi kickibro,

I've not run either (ever) I broke my leg in school so always been scared to be active.

It sure is a HOBBY

Hi snowflake....I love your name! You sound as if you're doing really well! So glad the programme is working its magic for you, although the shin splints are 'orrible! I've tried rubbing ibuprofen gel into my right shin and it certainly seems to help....might be worth a try?

in reply to tomlertoos

Morning tomlertoos,

Ah thanks you it's something my dads always called me (soppy eh)

in reply to tomlertoos

Argh where did the rest of my message go

3rd time lucky. I'll try & get some gel as it sounds much nicer than rolling a golf ball up & down my shins
