W7r2 done after an 11 day rest- better than ever! How's that then?

I had to leave off the programme at wk7r1 as there was nowhere I could safely run while away on hols. Got back today after 11 days off and decided to go straight out and try to pick up where I left off and just do what I could. I was dreading it and felt sure I'd only manage a few minutes. I am amazed to say that I ran the full 25 mins and enjoyed it more than ever. I don't understand why I felt fitter than before but I like it! So happy, I love this programme.

Hi again, the rest must have done you good and the factor of getting this far makes you appreciate what you do not want to loose. Good luck and we will all be graduating soon :)

Thanks for posting this. I too completed w7.1 and have had 5 days off but I'm also just going to give r2 a bash and see how I get on. Was desperate to get a run in over the weekend but just tooooo busy.

It's because your fitness is built during periods of rest, it is when the repair and adaptation of your body takes place. That's why we must take our rest days. Most training schedules will build in weeks of low mileage every so often and some trainers recommend a week off every 2/3 months. Admittedly it probably wouldn't help your running to keep taking 11 days off but as you have found out, it can actually be beneficial! I have planned a week of rest after I finish C25K in a couple of weeks, before I start my 10K schedule.

Hi everyone thanks for your replies. Pam I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine I was worried about a break putting me back but it did the opposite so I'm sure the rest has done me good. Best hadn't let my lazy side know that as I'll be trying to use it as an excuse!! Good luck to you all with graduating, I'm toying with a 10 k in the summer too but will see how I go.
