Any tips for tight/ painful calf muscles.

Only managed half of my first attempt as my right calf became very tight and I finished the session by walking the second half. Having done the warm up walk I wasn't expecting any problems. Is there something else I should do? Not done anything like this before.

I started a new route today and I had cramp in my calf's. I know it's not quite the same but I'm gonna do some stretches before my next run to see if it helps

Try stretching before and after, I found the calf stretch shown here helped me a lot: nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...

First of all, very well done in starting the programme and welcome. This is a very supportive and helpful community and we'll be with you all the way!

Regarding your question, a foam roller is the way to go! There was a thread about this a few weeks ago, see below.

I bought one a few weeks ago and it's sorted out my very tight calves. It hurts but it works!

As others have said, make sure you stretch properly after each run too.

Keep posting!
