After completing my 9weeks and graduating,I never felt so fit in my life,at the age of 62.Boy how things can change!

After Xmas I suffered a very rare event,a burst aneurysm of my splenic artery!and the loss of my spleen?I am nearly 4weeks post op,and feel pretty miserable and week.I am going small walks, and determined, that I will run again one day.I now face antibiotics every day for the rest of my life.it is important to make the most of every day!I now realise, after a brush with death.Anybody out there who hasn't got a spleen,be glad to hear from them

Crikey A1nsworth that was some nasty experience for you, but well done on your recovery to date and hope everything goes well for you. Can't give any advice other than be guided by your doctor and all the best of luck to you for a complete recovery. Take care.x

That is a bit of a shocker A1nsworth. I lost my health when I was young so I know it can happen and never take my ability to run/work/have fun now for granted.

It will take time for your body to heal and adjust and for you mentally to adjust to the shock of it. Keep walking. What do your Dr's say about future prospects of running/exercise?

Horrible for you,but I bet before you started c25k you never thought you would be jogging for 30 minutes at 62! Stay positive listen to your doctor's and get well. You will feel weak and fed up..you have had surgery so you are allowed :-) you will feel better it just takes time. x

So sorry to hear of your horrible experience. Hope you are making steady progress even if it is slow. Take good care, I'm sure you will get back to running.

My goodness. Take care of yourself and enjoy your walks as much as you can.

Hope your recovery continues well

As you say, A1nsworth, it is important to make the most of every day and I am sure that the spirit that got you through C25k will help you to do that. I hope that you will return to running, but as you know, slow and steady in your progress is no bad thing. Wishing you all the best for your recovery.

Wow, hope you get better soon. Life can hold some nasty surprises at times; I'm sure once you are well on the mend you will be back out there with the rest of us! Good luck!

I can't speak from personal experience, but my friend is mid 50 and was born without a spleen. This has only been discovered in the last few years. She lives an active life, has the usual common illnesses and is just a bit more susceptible to catching viruses and infections. She is on daily antibiotics. Does not appear to stop her doing anything, as long as she takes care of herself. I hope once you are fully recovered you will be as active as you were before your illness. Get well soon.

I'm so sorry to hear this but I am in awe of your determination to get back on with life. Sending you positive thoughts. Take it easy but I'm sure you will be back out there soon enough.

Blimey; that doesn't sound like fun. Take it easy and edge back in; here's hoping you'll be able to get back to running. And I wouldn't worry about the antibiotics-every-day thing. My learning-disabled daughter is on daily anti-eplilepsy & underactive thyroid tablets, and will be for the rest of her life. It's just how things are in her life. Ya just do what ya gotta do.

Thankyou to everyone for your kind positive thoughts.I think once I start feeling better, things will improve such a lot.I need to rid myself of negative thoughts, although not finding that easy.Im walking for 25mins a day be it very slow, but will get there.

Happy running to all of you x
