I'm posting this as a sort of promise to not bottle out today! I'm weedy and tired as had hardly any sleep ( insomnia) so worry that running will make me feel worse and then put me off carrying on. I'm thinking I shld go anyway and take it really easy just to have done it!
Please someone give me a talking to!
I'll press send now, then I'm committed to reporting back later

Just go and take it really easy but don't let one bad run put you off the whole program!! If you do feel really tired and not able though then maybe do it tomorrow but only if you really need to! I've only just started this too I'm at the end of week 2!
Okay, here goes... put on your shoes and go out for a run. Now!
Seriously though, it really is a matter of getting out and having a go. It might be a struggle, it might not, but you will have done it. I would have a different response if you felt ill, but I think it's unlikely going out will make you feel worse and may even give you a wee boost. I would really agree that you should take it easy when you get out though. Be chuffed you are doing it, that's enough just now... and I love that you are posting to help support you to go out! Go for it, then do a wee post to let us know how it went
Thanks Kiwihelen. I did it! Felt nowhere near as bad as I expected. I also signed up for the "Sleepio" insomnia programme,..... I am trying to convince myself that doing something positive even though I'm sleep deprived is still a better, even less tiring, feeling than doing nothing and feeling sorry for myself... Mind you that's easy to say now I've done it! I'd love to hear some insomnia tips if you have the time! Thanks again x
Main thing I've learned is don't have any screens (TV, computer, smart phone, Kindle) available to you from 10pm. Make sure you are both warm and in as dark a room as possible. If you can't sleep use an MP3 player with spoken word rather than music - there is a great site called "books should be free". You will find it sends you to sleep, but if not you are resting while listening. Avoid alcohol at all costs.
Sounds good advice. I do usually listen to books to fall asleep to, I manage falling asleep generally ok, it's more the waking in the small hours and trivial stuff racing round my head stopping me getting back. Hopefully running will help. Thanks for the tips.
Know exactly how you feel as I have been there many times myself. But go. Really. I have forced myself out with a cold, when hungover, when its pouring and after a pretty spectacular fall (nothing wounded but pride).
I think although none of those were my best or more enjoyable runs by a long shot, i was extra chuffed with myself and now when i feel myself wavering I think 'don't be ridiculous, you went running when you had a cold/hungover/fell over etc' and it helps me to stop wimping out.
I'm not advocating running if your are really sick or have the potential to get injured, but i think pushing yourself when you feel like you just don't want to is when you really start to realise that you can do this, even not at your best. which feels pretty great.
Get out there now! Kicking you up the virtual pants now!!!! Go on, do it now. Don't come back in this house til you've at least run round the block. Weedy wimp indeed. You're no such thing. YOU ARE A WINNER!
Haha.. Thanks misswobble! Just the talking to I needed. I DID it and feel great. Go me!...and all of us here too! (Aren't those endorphins just lovely?!)
Hi ReyC, Thanks for the encouragement. You are so right. I'm just back and feel chuffed I found the willpower.... and probably feel loads better than if I'd spent that 30 mins on the sofa groaning softly with tiredness! Also, as you say, it's there as a precedent next time I'm feeling sluggish.
Get out there and give it a go. You will find that it boosts you for a while. I felt like this yesterday and ended up doing much better than I expected. Better to try, than not do it at all
I would imagine that going out for a run may help cure the insomnia. When I exercise I always sleep better afterwards as I'm physically tired, even if not mentally tired. Get out there and get going. Good luck, we are all cheering you on.
Thanks for the cheering! Yay I did it and actually enjoyed it while I was doing it. Still can tell I'm sleep deprived but am probably no more tired than if I'd spent the time having a lie-down! I started this partly to help with the insomnia as I believe exercise is a crucial factor.
So grateful for the boost from everyone. Thanks again xxx
