Longest run - 8k-Blimey

I did my longest run today - an hour with a couple of mini walk breaks - and achieved 8k - I ran with a friend who ran at a faster pace than I would run - which pushes me - but I think messed me up for the finish.I was berating myself for not running longer and faster - and Mr SB pointed out that I had actually run 5 miles and ought to be jolly pleased with myself. So when he put it like that - i was jolly pleased.

I am entered into a 10k race next week and was going to wimp out on the basis of todays performance - but my running pal - has 'bullied' me in to doing it in the spirit of it will good for me and build up my running strength of character - oh ok then I said.

So wish me luck for next week - i do feel ever so slighty nervous.

If you can run 8K you can deffo do 10K. Best of luck with it; just keep putting one foot in front of the other!

I agree with Oldned. I did the 10k at the Great Scottish run last week with no extra training. The atmosphere on the day pushes you along. I'd advise setting yourself a pace you are comfortable with and just keep plodding on. You'll find you pass people who have gone off too fast or are walking bits of it. By the time you get to 8k you're almost home and if it's at all a big event folk will be spurring you on to the finish.

Thank you - for your wise words - I will definitely try to resist the temptation to set off to fast - as I know this will be my undoing- As you say after 8k it is only 2k more - so here goes fingers crossed :-)

Just keep it steady SB and the miles disappear. You may be better off by yourself though, if your running partner is too fast for you. Good luck, enjoy it.

Thank you - I am hoping the miles will disappear as you say. I think my friend is good for me on what i would call tempo runs - pushing me out of my comfort zone and the switch in my head that just says "walk"- and to be honest I wasn't done in at the end of hour - just a bit out of breath. But I will defo take it steady on sunday:-)
