Just found this on BBC website.

I especially like this quote:

'Saying that you should drink more water than your body asks for is like saying that you should consciously breathe more often than you feel like because if a little oxygen is good for you then more must be better.'

Of course, we all need different amounts and some of us may feel better if we drink more.

I've never drunk 8 cups of water a day and I seem to have survived pretty well so far. I'm one of those who just don't get thirsty and have to consciously make an effort to drink especially when it's extremely hot, although I do get headaches if I'm out and about in high temperatures - that soon reminds me!

Have edited the tags appropriately...

I've never believed the one size fits all idea that we need to drink x amount of water a day. If I drink as much as is recommended I am constantly running to the toilet. I drink one half litre glass before a run and one after and I am fine.

I always drink 1.5 litres per day....have done for years. I never need to drink on a run, although I only do 5 and 10 km at the moment, or even before a run, except if it's early morning. If I don't drink I feel it directly during my every day routine. I do believe that everyone is different and you should find your own amount that is good and comfortable for you. :)
