I especially like this quote:
'Saying that you should drink more water than your body asks for is like saying that you should consciously breathe more often than you feel like because if a little oxygen is good for you then more must be better.'
Of course, we all need different amounts and some of us may feel better if we drink more.
I've never drunk 8 cups of water a day and I seem to have survived pretty well so far. I'm one of those who just don't get thirsty and have to consciously make an effort to drink especially when it's extremely hot, although I do get headaches if I'm out and about in high temperatures - that soon reminds me!
