WK 5 just completed and over the moon!!

Hi all I wanted to share that today I did w5r3 and managed to hit the 5k - that was including the warm up and warm down as well, but still very proud of myself :)

I want to add that it wasn't easy for me to start all this. I have been dealing with injuries for several years now and was always told by people who think they know best (you know the sort I mean) that running was bad, I should just go swimming and I should rest. Nothing against people who go swimming, but it just isn't for me. I also am coming round to my GPs thought that I may have fibromyalgia - although not letting him refer me to rheumatology yet as I haven't quite come out of the denial stage of this yet! I probably drive him up the wall. I used to be a very good runner and I was missing it. Anyway, sitting around and not doing a lot actually makes me feel worse and the pain can be so bad that I really can't move. So, with the encouragement of my physio I basically put 2 fingers up to the world and went "I will run again".

So in August the C25K started for me. And it's been great! Even on days when I've woken up in pain (this is when it can be at it's worst), I've dragged myself out and done it and the result - pain reduced!! I still get extremely tired and there's been a couple of occasions where I've had to take a 2 day break between runs but I don't feel bad about it and accept that it's part of me and what I need to do for me.

I also qualified this year as a therapeutic counsellor and my main practice is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) so I've been doing a lot of this on myself as well.

I suppose what I want to say is don't let people tell you what is best for you - you are the best judge of that and if you want to do it, you can, it just might not always be that easy :)
