Cheltenham Half Marathon next weekend - EEEEKKKKK!

After having graduated in October 2012 and flushed from success after a 10k run in April, I rather stupidly entered the Cheltenham Half Marathon which is next Sunday. Now in April that seemed AGES away, but all of a sudden it is upon me. My summer "training regime" has been disrupted by the rather lovely weather - I can't run in the heat, but last Sunday I managed to run 12 miles in 2hrs 17mins (with a couple of water stops - I can't run and drink). Talk about sore legs on Monday morning! I did another 2 x 5k runs during the week and I have just done 10k as my training plan suggests I should be tapering!! Am I ready for next weekend? Probably not, but I am determined to get round the whole course, running all of it at my own pace. Just need to finish is 4 hours because they re-open the roads then!

Good luck to everyone else taking part in the event next week!

I'd say you're as ready as you're going to be. You'll be fine :-)

Don't over do it this week, a couple of 5k's should be in order.

Thanks Crox

Planning to run on Tues and Thurs, plus one Zumba session (for the fun of it) and pilates. Will be taking it easy on Friday and Saturday! As you say, I am as ready as I will ever be. It's all in the mind now :-)

From what you are able to do, I think you just have to go for it, nice and steady and lots of control....very very good luck. I have my first HM in October and I'm really scared!!!

Thanks Juicyju. You're right, nice and steady and don't get carried away by events! I am getting more nervous as the days go by. Good luck with your HM in October!

Good luck, you'll be fine. Slow and steady as always is the trick! Don't feel overwhelmed by the occasion and try to enjoy it! (I will try and also follow this advice in Oct, when mine is!)
