I am going on holidays at the end of Sept. How many of your guys actually run while on holidays or do you take a break ? My fear is taking a break and returning and falling off the wagon....any advice ?

Not graduated yet, but I pack my running shoes whenever I travel (work trips or holidays)

I always take my running gear, (wear my running shoes to travel as not enough room in suitcase) shorts & tops can be used for other things as well as running. I then check out the hotel area to see if its safe, i.e. pavements or park or beach to run on. If all OK yes I run, every 2 or 3 days, I have even been known to do 20 minutes on a dreadmill in hotel gym. But the most important thing is to make sure it is safe before you go gallivanting off especially on your own. Carry water and be sure your partner/friends know you are away and what time to expect you back. Enjoy, I'm heading off too and know it will be hot so water bottle is getting packed as well. :) Enjoy

ditto above - I always pack my trainers and try to do something every few days. Last holiday - I practised lots of sprinting dog fleeing - so take OG's good advice.

have a good holiday and happy running:-)

Two mini breaks recently and ran twice each time. Takes some adjustment but worth it.

To give you a different point of view, I didn't take my running gear. We went to Rhodes about 3/4 weeks after I graduated and, as where we were staying was quite hilly, I decided in advance I wasn't going to bother. By the time I got up in the morning, I figured it would be far too hot anyway. :) As it turned out, our two week break turned into 3 and a half weeks (husband took ill and insurance company took an age to get us home) and then one thing after another when we got home, but finally got back out for a run after a 5 week break. I was really worried but in fact I needn't have been. Ok, it was hard work but I was surprised at how little fitness I'd lost. I set out saying to myself "just do what you can". 10 minutes passed, then 15, then 20. You know how it goes. Got to that point and thought "I'm not giving up now" and carried on to complete the full 35 minutes I do these days. Have a good holiday (and make sure you have adequate insurance and the EU health card x)

I love running when away, always try to find a parkrun if away in the UK for the weekend. While on a tour of Europe I managed 3 runs a week for 3 weeks, always in the morning to avoid the heat. Had some lovely runs in Switzerland, Slovenia and Vienna. Had some funny looks in Serbia mind...

Ooooh interesting post for me......I too am travelling on holiday the last week of September with my family. My brothers and Pops all run, so we are planning to run while away, but it's Gozo........so hilly!!!!!!! I'm going to pack my stuff and see how I go......I want to run.....but I'm not going to try and keep up with my bro's and Pops....if I only manage 15 minutes out up and down the Gozotian hills I'll be happy. The fact that I'm even contemplating running while on holiday is enough of a success for me!!!!!

I was on Week 5 when I went to Thassos in July and had worked so hard to get there I was determined to do my 3 runs a week. I went out at 6.30 before it got too hot and I have to say it was fab running with the Aegean Sea in my sight, I really enjoyed it.

We went to Northumberland for a week a couple of weeks ago, I took my kit and ran 5 out of the 7 days we were there. I got to see some of the scenery the others didn't (and some I didn't expect to see).

I'm off to Barcelona for a few days for a friend's 50th birthday next week, I'm doing an OldGirl, wearing my running shoes and packing my sandals. I intend to run 2 of the 4 days we're there, so long as I'm not too squiffy in the mornings!

I await as an opportunity to have some time focussing on my running as my life is incredibly full on day to day... We went to Cornwall and I ran every other day.... It was some of the best times of the holiday and I so miss that now .... Hope you have a lovely time....

I'd say pack your trainers and see what happens. I take mine for some of my trips, but as I end up doing much more active stuff like walking and swimming I don't necessarly feel like I need it. That said, my last holiday was when I did 5km in 30 minutes, which basically was the goal from C25K.

Ran in Corfu this summer and loved it. It was really nice running early in the mornings.

So pack that gear and go for it.
