Following a positive run on Sunday, I've decided the only way to find my enthusiasm for running is to be strict with myself and aim to get out every other day - just as I did while doing the C25k programme.
I'm still not sure about tackling a 10k at the end of next month, but want to feel like I'm moving forwards so decided to try the stamina podcast for the first time.
Phew! I spent the first 10 minutes thinking how intense it was to be running so fast when I wasn't yet warmed up and into my stride. Fortunately, the change of temp for the next section didn't feel too much harder - very similar to my usual running speed, once I'm in "the zone" - and it got me up a long hill I'd usually slow down for. The pay-off was coming back down the other side of the hill -whereas I'd usually ease off to get my heart rate and breathing back under control, the 160 bpm was relentless, so I found myself shortening my stride to accommodate the pace...I must have looked like a Shetland pony trying to keep up with a race horse!
The fastest tempo final 5 minutes flew by, but I didn't stride out because I wanted to know I could get to the end comfortably.
Like the stepping stones podcast, the overall run covered less distance than I would if I was running at my own pace, but felt more intense somehow - it goes to show that one pace, regardless of incline, circumstance etc doesn't fit all, I guess.
Maybe it's not ideal for upping mileage, but it felt good for adding a bit of discipline to my run - which I assume is how it builds stamina.
Anyway, 3.57 miles done and another satisfying run in the bag.
