First run in a month...and it was tough

Hi all!

Quick post today...

Today is Eid (Islamic festival after the month of fasting) and I decided to go for an early morning run before prayers and all the family coming over.

It was a really tough run, I ran 4km in total (below link is for 3km) and averaged 7min per km. The last time I ran I averaged just over 5min per km and ran 5km. I think it'll take me at least a month to get back to where I was.

connect.garmin.com/activity...

Also, last year my Mum got me a shirt that said "Papa is the best" because I taught my daughter to say that! Because I have lost a lot of weight I don't wear it that often now, so she got me another one!

Anyway next run is Saturdays Parkrun and I hope to do 5km in 30 mins but I think it'll be very hard. Wish me luck!

Looks like a pretty good run to me! I bet you get back pretty quickly to your pre-fasting pace - though even your current pace sounds unbelievably fast to me. :)

Great t-shirt too!

Good to see Papa is the best back and running. Don't overdo it though you don't want any injuries. See you have got your new Garmin up and running too, well done. :)

Thanks and I'll be careful not to overdo it. The Garmin is great, as an added bonus I've figured out how to transfer my runs to Nike+ so I can keep competing with my Nike+ friends!

Enjoy Eid and celebrate how different you look now in the before and after pics.

Thanks, I've lost a further 4kgs in Ramadan and will probably put a bit of it back on with all the goodies we are eating today! I've lost 28kgs since I began eating better in October.

Well that's a lot of rucksacks you were running with in the past. Glad they are gone.

Just think it more than the luggage allowance for flying.

Ever tried lifting one of those suitcases and running with it!!

Brilliant success, you must feel so much better.

Well done and enjoy the celebrations :-)

Amazing difference Aftabs! You must be very proud of yourself - and I love the T shirt! You'll soon be back to your previous best.

Have a happy Eid celebration with your family and best wishes to you all!

Thanks! The thoughtful inexpensive gifts are always the best. I'll be wearing it a lot!

Take your time, sometimes it is hard when you have a long break like that. I had a month and a bit break and when I did the first run, it was so hard, but gradually it becomes better. Good luck!!

I'll definitely built myself up slowly and will not try upping my pace too much. The Garmin is actually very good for this because you can train by heart rate and I'll keep my heart rate zone at a lower level to make sure I don't push myself too much.

Well done Aftabs, I think you'll be beating your PB's in no time at all.. Bionic man!!! Enjoy your festival and remember not to push yourself too much.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I want a 23 min 5km by year end, let's see if I can achieve it.

I'm sure you will.. My aim is to do it in under 30 mins by the end of the summer... I can do it in 30 so nearly there, and my son leon can do it in 25!!

Leon has very impressive times and at his age they will only be getting quicker!
