diabetes and running

Several times recently I've done a blood test before and after a run. Each time the pre reading is about 5.5...... and scarily the second reading taken immediately I get back is 8.5 or 8.9, when I would have expected it to be lower.

Is this just me or does anyone else have the same odd thing?

Im sorry but these readings don't mean anything to me as I know very little about your illness. My thoughts would be to discuss these results with your clinic nurse/doctor and get advice. Well done on your running and I hope you are able to continue.

I have checked.... and apparently it is to be expected!

However, the running has improved the condition amazingly - and I was given an A* for fitness, including blood pressure, heart rate, etc., all of which is very satisfying!!!

Another reason for being smug!

Oh boy newrunner just you keep on going then, it seems to be working for you too. Over 3.1/2 years ago I was rushed into hospital with suspected heart attack which turned out to be angina brought on by irregular heart beat which was erratic and beating over 120 bpm, not good. Now at my last check up they pronounced me fit enough for a 35-40 year old, asthma tests have never been so good too. So if anyone says running is not good for you, my reply is rubbish its the best thing I ever did and it sounds as if its good for you too. Wishing you all the best for a happy future with lots of running. I have a new mantra which is 'Live to run, run to live' which seems to sum up what its done for me, I sincerely hope it does the same for you too. :)

Here's to being fit! Well done on your good reports - I don't have to go for another diabetic checkup until March next year, they were so pleased.... and I have reduced my tablets, which is even better. Apparently the 'good' cholesterol has increased and the 'bad' one decreased, so all in all a much fitter me! Keep it up - there's not much fun in being older, but it can be deferred! :)
