Over recent weeks I've had a bit of a niggle in my lower back, which didn't seem to get any worse after a run, so I carried on. On the 8th June I ran the Bedgebury Forest Trailblazer 10k run, which was quite hard, hot and hilly. Since then my back had been more painful, so I've rested, iced, heated, stretched and rollered.
I googled rollering and lower back pain and found a youtube video that showed rollering the glutes, well that hit the spot (ow, ow ow), so this week I've been stretching and rollering.
This evening I set off for a run, with no distance in mind, but expecting to do over 5k, I set off slow and the whole run felt such an effort, usually I settle down after 10 mins, but not today. My usual run is 2k out turn around, 2k back, turn off onto another road and 1k (3k if it's a 10k run)turn then 1k back. Well tonight I only made the 2k out and back.
A 4.25k run is better that no run. I was absolutely dripping when I got back, I've just looked at the Garmin stats and it was 24 degrees.
Once back home I felt great, so even though it was hard going at the time I think this run has done me good. I think I'll make my Friday run either very early or very late in cooler temperatures.
