End of Week 7 - still tired but keeping on...

Well,

I did my third run of this week and I forgot my watch, but I didn't bother going back for it; I thought I'd just run my usual route and use the clock in the car to get a rough approximation of my time.

I still feel tired - unaccountably so from last week to this - and random thoughts like 'give up now - have a rest!' kept popping into my head - it's lonely running on your own without someone to pull you along when you're feeling weak and tired and I still haven't got the podcasts or music loaded on my new iPod so it's all silent except for my harsh breathing and the sounds of the wind in the trees...

Anyway, I did it - the usual 2.7 miles and it's still taking me 33 minutes and some odd seconds (this is my fifth 30+ minute run) so I'm running at about the same pace as last time - I have improved by about one minute from last week though. I need to get faster!!

Next week, week 8, I'm going to run further - if not faster lol - and try for the full 5K - another 700m...

Hi Laney0378, Seems to me that you are already doing what's required of the programme, so don't stress yourself too much about the 5k target at this stage! Not sure if anyone else has suggested this to you, but maybe a two-day rest would see you capable of moving both further and faster .... After all you've been rushing yourself through the weeks! Be kind to yourself, and shake off the tiredness with a little rest - your graduation run will be so much better if you are wide awake, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and buzzing to go :D

Have fun, and take care ...there are lots more targets to aim for after graduation ;)

Cheers, Linda :)

Hi Linda,

Yeah, I know I'm doing what's required i.e. the running time; in fact I've been doing more than the required time since week 2 or 3 - I mean, I did a 20 minute run in week 4 I think it was, and I've done 30+ minute runs since week 5-6 - just 'cause I like to challenge myself...

- But I do have two rest days between two of the runs like it suggests and I only do the three runs each week - but maybe I've been overdoing things in terms of distance? - It's just lately I'm tired...

- Anyway, I get it - it would be nice to finish well! :)

Thanks!

Hi Laney. I am one run behind you - 3rd run of week 7 is tommorrow morning. I must confess I have found week 7 tough - the 'I cant do it' monkey has definately been on my shoulder! but like you I have kept going - graduation seems so close and with it the option to start running to our own playlists - I have already started building mine - Lynrd Skynrd, Yes, Bad Company, Heaven 17, Guns and Roses etc etc etc and random other bits of stuff I really love - if I run my whole playlist I will need to keep going for about 4 hoours so thats not going to happen :).

I dont feel ready for a 5k yet but it is tempting to try for one early next week - at the moment I am reaching 4.2 K with the 5 minute walk at the start and end... very tempting.

Whatever you decide to do next week I hope it goes well!

Hi J

That monkey is worrisome - it gets around! :)

I find the worst part is the first 10 minutes or so - once I feel I'm approaching halfway - even better when I've reached it because my halfway point is marked by a gate - then somehow, even though I'm probably tired, it seems easier so I guess it is mainly psychological. Like I say, I haven't even got my playlists - I've run all but once with no sound which is hard! I need to get some of my favs - some of yours and some other of my fav rock bands - to help me along!

How far do you think you're running if you're including the 5 minute start and end walks in your 4.2K - or am I misreading this?

Let me know how you get on with your run tomorrow and next week's runs?

- Best of luck to you too!

I am going to try and run for up to 40 mins if I can on my next run which is Saturday - that should push me over that mythical 5K!
