Strength and flexibility (S & F) Week 1 exercise 1 (inc. picture of pull-up lattice).

Having just done my first S & F exercises I thought I'd give my opinion on how it went, and how I got over the problem of not having any shoulder-height railings in or around my house.

When I have been briskly walking and running every other weekday for the past 4 weeks it was certainly at first a bit underwhelming to hear Laura tell me to walk 'at an easy pace'. I'm also not sure how one can do the S & F indoors, given that unless one has a rather extensive house things might get in the way of walking round for a few mins?

I found the videos showing me how to do the various helpful, though I was given quite a clear description of what to do from Laura. 'Keep those elbows in!'.

Overall, though I'm not yet currently feeling like I have had much benefit from today's session, it is nice to have something to do when not running and I'm confident by week 5 I will be stronger and more flexible.

The above picture is one of what I used for the pull-up exercise. I was wandering round the garden seeking inspiration when I noticed it stuck to the side of the garage. I had never paid it much notice before, but it worked quite well. I've seen 'multi-purpose' lattice before but I doubt even the manufacture had in mind what I've used it for.

Unless I think of something else to write about, I look forward to writing tomorrow's blog after my second run of this week (4).

Hi Mike, I found the first week of S&F fairly straightforward as well, but found it got harder when sit-to-stands and bench dips were introduced. The workouts get a bit quicker as well and now 7 weeks on (carrying on with the exercises and taking the options to make all the exercises more challenging) I'm definitely feeling stronger and more flexible. And it's good to have something to do on C25K rest days.
