I'd like to do this kind of thing (especially for cancer) but would like to do with husband, and as far as I'm aware race for life is just women. (Plus not sure would quite be ready in June)
Anything like race for life that men and women... - Couch to 5K
Anything like race for life that men and women can do?
Have you tried to google it for your area Plinth? Might be your best option for ideas.
Not fundraising but how about Parkrun? It's free and anyone can join in. Look at parkrun.org.uk for information and to see if there's one in your area. You'll find loads of friendly people in this site to motivate and encourage you as well.
I did the Poppy Run last October (for the Royal British Legion) and that is unisex, its also still on a fairly small scale as last year was only the 2nd year of it so you wouldn't be swamped with thousands of people.
Do you know, this really disappointed me, that men aren't allowed to join in. I think this is wrong, personally. Men get cancer too. I'm not actually sure I would have signed up if I'd realised this first. Sorry - that was a rant, not an answer to your question. I'll get off my soap-box now
I know. I was really surprised. I know I could do it alone but my husband would have the same 2 reasons for doing it as me so it seems a shame he can't. I've found a fun run in Coventry where you can choose a charity but I'm still having trouble accepting that we can't both run a race for life.
It even if there were some that were unisex (I get that some women prefer women only but i wouldn't feel comfortable being in my own).
It's just... odd. I shan't do it again next year, because i don't think it's right. I hope you find something that works for you both.
I ran one that was unisex last month. It wasn't called RFL but was in support of Cancer Research. It was in a small place in the north of Scotland and I guess there wouldn't have been many runners if just one sex. May be worth checking out small villages near you to see if they do something similar.
The Bupa great runs usually have a 10k and a 5k run too. The great north run definitely does. You can choose which charity you support. Google Great Runs to find the nearest ones. Good luck.
There was a Jane Tomlinson 10k in hull last weekend, maybe they have others nationwide?
I won't ever do race for life either, they should be less discrininationary
I don't understand the problem with race for life. There are lots of other races about. Maybe there should be a men only one too. Good causes, in all their formats must be worth something.
Have you considered trying to organise a fun run in your own area? Hard work, I know, but what an achievement it could be.
Have a look at BoysBeatingCancer.com which is supported by Cancer Research UK
Sounds like a good thing. But still searching for a unisex one. We obviously live in the wrong area!
I think a unisex one would be good but only to replace race for life and the odd men's event like ours. RFL is way too successful to try to take the market share. Opening it to men would work at this stage but all indication from CRUK is that it is very unlikely.
