How to cope with gates?

Now we've done week 6 r2 and are into longer runs, going round and round our quiet field will end up dragging. But - most routes involve a gate, either a big field type one or a metal pedestrian kissing gate. How do people cope with them - just slow down enough to get through then carry in running?

Hi Plinth, I followed a dog walker through a single metal pedestrian gate today and almost did myself a mischief when I thought it opened away from me but it should have come towards me. That brought me to a full stop very quickly! LOL Fortunately all the gates I encounter open easily. I think I would climb over large field gates. I am surprised how quickly you stiffen up when your pace is interrupted for any reason.

I envy you your wide open fields and country lanes, although I'm not that far from them myself. Have never come cross a field gate but do have one country right of way style which I take very carefully, especially when its been raining they are really slippy. Your right Beek any sort of obsticle which interupts your stride is a great annoyance, most of the time its traffic and traffic lights. The biggest nightmare is hundreds of academy school children, but most of them are used to seeing me now and smile and keep out of my way. If I've enough puff I usually say "Hi guys" and give them a wave.

The worst obsticle by far for me was 5 horses on the same track I was on, they were huge and there was hedges both sides, they had stopped to let me pass, it was a group with disabled adults so they were slow moving. I just wish they hadn't as it was scary and even worse as it then meant I had a great big horse right behind me, I don't think my little legs ever went that quick again. I turned off the main track as quickly as I could I'm telling you. Oh boy, this running has its moments doesn't it.;)

I bet your legs went fast!! That really made me laugh.

Reminds me of when I once saw someone long jump over a cattle grid and carried on with his run.... I wonder if he high jumped the gates & fence too?
