First run mixed feelings

Really, Really struggled had to stop half way through but got back on the horse and finished.

Unsure if I am overdoing it as my resting heart rate is 60-70 I hit peaks of 160 whilst jogging.

Then seemed to come down to 90 ish but chest really tight and sore taking large beep breaths to keep up.

At one point I thought I was ho recreate the alien scene of the chest burster thats what it felt like.

Is this normal to begin with, should i take more breaks and not push so hard?

Any advice please

Firstly well done on your first run :) The main advice for us newbies is to go slowly. I use runkeeper to track my speed and distance and I actually run slower than I walk - so as you can see slow is slow. I would just concentrate on doing all of the runs and I certainly wouldn't push too hard this early on. Keep going :)

I'd second fitbefore40 - in my first week, my "running" was definitely slower than my walking speed! The important part of the running is to only have one foot on the ground at any time. If you are doing this, you are meeting the requirement regardless of how slow this may seem (it will speed up, believe me). Sounds as if you are pushing things a little fast at the moment, keep going, just maybe not quite so fast on the run sections.

You've done the important bit - you've started! Keep it up and let us know how run 2 goes.

You got over the major hurdle, which is getting out there. Slow and easy is the way to go. Repeat this run a couple of times, it should get slightly easier, then if you feel up to it move onto week 2. If not have another couple of goes at this run.

If you slow down its definitely better in the long run. I'm amazed at the difference it makes at the end of the run when your heart doesn't feel like it's going to burst out of your chest.

Well done for getting out there. Sounds to me like you are "running" before you are ready.

Go really slowly...really really slowly. I run slower than I walk.

:-) I remember running so slow, I had several snails and turtles pass me. ;-) Gayle

Just to say the same as everyone else.

Slow and steady! :) It gets you there and is much less painful!
