Let's have another poll. I have tried to mention as many as I am allowed in the boxes, I thought it would be interesting to see what we all take out as ID and security essentials. For me it is my keys, phone with my ICE numbers in and £5 and my oyster card.

Oh I hadnt thought of the fact that my phone has my ICE numbers in it. Thats another box I could've ticked....

how can I get out of Couch to 5K? I need to leave it for now and concentrate on the 12 week challenge, but can't find the undo button

any help? cheers DoniMac

RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to DoniMac

Hi Donimac, there is no need to leave, it is a very flexible program it copes very well with just being left and coming back to it when you feel ready to tackle it again. It is set up so you can quite happily spend weeks getting a run right if that is what you need. Good luck with the 12 week challenge.

I've ticked phone and keys because that's exactly what I did for my 'long run saturday' this morning. For a quick pre work 5k, it might be keys only and if me and the other half were both at home, probably nothing. It depends really.

For me the less I have to take the better, if I'm home alone then I have to take keys, otherwise it's nothing. On,y really long runs I might carry a £1 to buy a drink half way.

Inly mr phone - I've just thought it's probably better to name my husband as husband rather than just Baldy... who'd guess that was who to phone? !

Beads profile image
BeadsGraduate in reply to Curlygurly2

List him as 'ICE - Baldy', apparently the emergency services go through your phone looking for 'ICE' contacts, if they need to that is, not just on a whim. We should all have an ICE number in our phone. They won't necessarily look for 'mum', 'dad', 'hubby' etc.

vixiej profile image

my phone is locked, so I can't rely on that, as they'd need me to swipe it open for them. I am thinking of getting wristband with number though, as I don't think people will automatically look to the shoes for my tags...

My phone is locked too, but I have my ICE displayed on the lock screen.

Go to Settings > Personal > Security > Owner Info and follow it from there. This is on Android 5.01 and 5.1, but I've been doing it for some time so I'm sure it's available on earlier versions of Android too (certainly Android 4).

39tiro profile image
39tiroGraduate in reply to AdamB

For Android 4 it's the following - Settings > My Device > Lock Screen > Lock Screen Widgets > Edit Personal Information

in reply to vixiej

If using an iPhone you can enter ICE information via Health app > Medical ID.

This can then be accessed if the phone is locked by swiping as if to unlock and then tapping 'Emergency'.

Thank you

Is that a specific health app or any app ?

in reply to Gary-S

You should have had one "thrust on you" :D from Apple in one of their previous iOS updates, think it was the one before last. The icon is white with a red heart in the corner. It's just called "Health".

Keys so I can get back in, phone which has an ICE number in it. I used to take my first aid kit (small plastic bag with a couple of wet wipes and assortment of plasters) which also has my parkrun barcode, an emergency fiver and some safety pins (I'm not that organised, they're just left over from a race and it was a handy place to stash them), after a couple of months of it being missing I found it when I cleared up my desk!! It'll probably start coming with me again. I ought to put an oyster card in there as we can't get on the buses with money these days.

I bought myself a running backpack with the idea that I could do some longer runs, get out to a station somewhere and be able to get a train home, put a pair of trousers and a jumper in the pack to put on at the station. I may get round to doing it one day!

Only my phone (and keys if my wife/daughter are not at home).

Not sure what Naked is? you didn't give the option of no ID. I don't need to take keys as I don't usually need to lock house/car. If I do then the keys are left somewhere nearby. If I am going out of the village on the moor road then I might take my phone.

I don't currently run at the moment but I go out and train for football, but I will be starting the c25k again on monday (in the safe environment of the gym as I sustained another brain injury just before christmas but I have been given the ok to go back in to the gym, so I'm happy to get back to training and building up my strength again), and I won't stop until told I should by a doctor, but when I go out to train for football I take my headway card (so if I end up being knocked out then the paramedics know that I have sustained a brain injury in the past), bank card (so they know my name and in case I need money in emergency), phone (with my mum's number in but I might put it down as an ICE number, does ICE stand for In Case of Emergency?) first aid kit and keys (if I'm the only one in the house when I leave or I know when I get back the house will be locked up),

I don't know where the survey things are on this website.

Only just gone through the c25k home page so just realised this is attached to the survey oops I can be really stupid sometimes lol :)

I've put my minimum, but if I have my usual bag in the car I take out my fat wallet and my purse and carry those too (but that's really about keeping them safe rather than me). I always have my dog who wears a collar with ID which fastens around it and can't come off, and who is microchipped. Not saying she'd do a Lassie for me though...

I've ticked phone (which has ICE contacts in, or rather it's the medical ID info that you can use on the iPhone) but it really depends where I'm running. I have no issues of just taking a key and no other form of ID with me. Conversely if I'm doing a long run then I'll take an emergency tenner just in case I need to buy something or catch a cab!!

Gary-S profile image

Presumably ICE on a mobile is useless if it is PIN protected,or is there a way around this problem ??

AdamB profile image
AdamBGraduate in reply to Gary-S

If its an android phone you can usually display ICE on lock screen

If using an iPhone you can enter ICE information via Health app > Medical ID.

I ticket phone as when I run I only have my phone on me, however I use the gym, so if you meant all that, then I take; keys, money/cards, ID, gym card, house keys.

I was discussing this with a friend only today! Particularly as we both start to run longer distances. Her main worry is packs of dogs, mine of falling and getting stuck! I do try to make sure someone knows where I am planning to run, but it's not unknown for me to deviate from the plan mid run...

Naked for me. Whats an ICE?

In Case (of) Emergency - 'phone no.

Frank-ntj profile image

I ticked phone as I use it all the time to listen to music while I'm out, it is only very occasionally I need to take keys.

vixiej profile image

I have parkrun tags on my trainers with ICE, blood group, medical allergy. I usually carry a single key, protein bar for afterwards, phone and money (notes, cc, plus £1 coin). I squeeze it into a little waist pouch. Sometimes I listen to music, but have an armband for that. I don't like carrying things (or wearing the waist pouch). I never carry water, I normally buy a drink on a longer run, although that may change as I take more of them off road

andi22 profile image
andi22Graduate

Early in my running life I only carried a key to either door or car. This changed when I tripped in the woods one day and badly sprained my ankle. I realised then that I should have some means of contact on me so ever since I always take my phone with me.

No need for an oyster card here, lucky to have busses never mind an underground! 😟

AnnieW55 profile image

It depends.

Whenever I can I'm naked (!)

Often a single key and maybe (but not always) on long run, phone and some money - all fitted in tights/jacket pocket

Irishprincess profile image

I have to drive for at least 5 minutes to go for any run so I have to carry a car key as well as phone which has my ICE details as a screen saver. I also carry an attack alarm because I sometimes run in remote places and I have seen way too many horror movies in my time!

Nellyharte profile image

Golly feeling a bit naked now as I only take my phone and have no ICE no but that is a really brilliant tip......why have I never heard of that before?? Thanks realfoodieclub good one!

I have my Medic Alert bracelet on all the time (I'm allergic to penicillin) which just about counts as an ID tag! Otherwise don't really take much with me.. I'm starting to think I ought to now! Even if it's only a bit of paper with a phone number on it.

Pigivi profile image
Pigivi

I may be probably completely irresponsible but I run naked... there's no phone coverage anyway, and as I run on roads in the morning between 10 and 12 some tractor is bound to pass by -and the dog is microchipped - if my run involves a warm up hike up the hill I do take my phone, sometimes... I lock the door but leave the keys behind in the garden , when I don't lock myself out

rmnsuk profile image
rmnsukGraduate

When I go to the gym I have everything in the locker, or the car, but both are unavailable so I guess I'm naked unless I have my phone, but it's locked so useless. When I go to parkrun I have keys and my parkrun ID/ICE card and again maybe my (useless) phone.

folkieboater profile image
folkieboaterGraduate

Always take a phone with ICE as the lock screen. Only take a car key on Parkrun or an organised run I have to drive to. If I run from the boat I put my key in a secret place if I'm the only one there. might think of taking money if I was in a town, but there's not a lot of spending opportunities on the towpath - I usually run before the pub opens :)

Anniemurph profile image

I have my MedicAlert details on my phone armband, and I take my phone as well (in case I need to ring for a taxi!), plus my house key. I never take money, but perhaps that's a good idea. If there's anyone in the house, I leave a note telling them roughly where to look for my body :D i.e. round town or up the Trail, and I say when I've set off and when I expect to be back.

Ahhhh......

Funnily enough I've been worrying about this lately and have just ordered an ID bracelet from this company: tagnix.co.uk/

For those that don't know, if using an iPhone you can enter ICE information via Health app > Medical ID.

This can then be accessed if the phone is locked by swiping as if to unlock and then tapping 'Emergency'.

Keys, Phone, tissue(because I will get snotty if I don't take one), Inhaler(just in case) and I will now take ICE as it seems a very sensible idea!!

MP3 player, so I can listen to the lovely Laura.

If I take a fleece/something with pockets in the cooler weather, I shove a few tissues in there.

That's it.

I take phone and keys, plus a drink if I'm out for more than about an hour or its hot. Have been known to take a note if I'm nursing an injury and I think I might not make it home!
