Shielding ?

Hi all,

first post here, hope you are all well. I have copd and I am using Trellegy Elipta 22 mcg dry powder inhaler along with a reliever.

I have not received a letter to shield for 12 weeks. According to the nhs website you have to contact your gp for advice as to whether you should be put on the list or not.

My trouble is I cannot get past the receptionist. She keeps referring me back to public health England or nhs websites.

Im really at a loss of what to do.

Good Afternoon Saxasalt and welcome. I've had copd since 2005 and use Seebri inhaler once a day and reliever as and when. I have kept pretty well considering but as I'm 70 and in the at risk group I have had to stop going shopping for myself. I stopped all family and friends visiting me 2 wks ago. I have no symptoms so I do go out once a day for some fresh air & exercise ( I have no garden or private front). I keep the required distance if I come across anyone. I carry my 'kit bag' lol with me of sanitizer, disposable gloves, tissues and reliever. I do have a face mask but haven't used, yet.

I'm lucky enough to live by the seaside, the sea front is couple mins walk for me and a half hour walk there really lifts me. I envy anyone who has someone to Isolate with, this is solitary confinement! I have lately joined JOE WiICKS on utube for his workout for the over 50's and finding I'm enjoying that too. As soon as I return home I take my shoes of at the front door, walk straight to the kitchen and wash my hands for the time required. I then get Anti-Bacterial wipe/gel to wipe my front door handle and my shoes.

Take care and stay safe.

Does the office have an advice nurse you can talk to? I would ask to leave message for your dr or advice nurse. Tell receptionist that those web sites say to talk to your dr for your case.

Update

I managed to speak to my doc who told me she thought I was borderline whether to shield or not. She also said all advice I needed was on Public Health England website and Gps were not doing letters.

I told her I used NHS digital and the .Govuk sites for my information and it clearly said that Gps were expected to add 600k to the 900k vulnerable people already on the list. I also told her that on those sites it says to contact your GP if you needed a letter or note for your employer to prove that you should be shielded.

I pointed out there was also a list of medications on these sites that the nhs used to help identify vulnerable people and mine was on there.

She agreed to write me a letter (To Whom It May Concern) that I could have picked up from the surgery.

Sorry if this appears long winded but I wanted to give this information to anyone who is in a similar position.

Stay safe
