Very breathless

I was diagnosed with Copd last year was controlled with inhalers then my breathing got worse so they removed my inhalers while awaiting a heart scan, that was clear so they've put me back on them and waiting to see chest specialist saying they don't know why I'm breathless it's been an horrendous year.

Good evening korakes, I hope you get everything worked out soon! You should consider joining the British Lung Foundation in Health Unlocked. You would get more answers in that forum. This one has spurts of activity, sometimes no one at all for a long time.

Good morning. I wonder if your breathlessness could be attributed in part to anxiety. I was diagnosed with beginning emphysema in 1986. Now advanced COPD (stage 4) in 2001. I'm 79 years old. Nust me and my pup. I DO have bouts of anxiety. I take a .05 Lorazepam. Keep busy. Don't become a couch cushion.

Hi korakes,

I also have the same issues that you have. I was told I have mild lung changes and given albuterol (which has literally no effect on my breathing). I was thought to have anxiety issues (PTSD) and sent to a behavioral professional. After 3 sessions was released from treatment as she couldn't find anything. Had 4 spirometry tests done over 8 years and shows lungs are okay for age, weight, pack years, and caucasian. Lung capacity 88%. Brought this up to heart doctor, had an echo cardiogram and stress test, then right and left heart catherization which revealed "diastolic dysfunction" but very mild. Doctor stated this "maybe causing my shortness of breath". Can be treated with medication (told it was years of high blood pressure and not doing enough exercise). Checked with primary care doctor whom put me on Thiazide Diuretic (12.5mg) still have shortness of breath. One month later heart went erratic and now have Atrial Fibrillation. Because of this I now take beta blocker, blood thinner and PPI (to treat stomach discomfort). I still have shortness of breath. I work out (cardio) at gym 3 days a week and 6 days a week do stretching exercises at home. I am not overweight, I eat one piece of fish a week, no meat, plant based diet. I am still short of breath. I met with an allergist fearing pollen is the culprit and had blood work confirm it isn't allergies. I am seeing a pulmonologist this month and hopefully get some answers. I have also had CT scans of the chest with contrast and no tumors, masses. It is just so frustrating. I so hope you get some answers. My sat levels are normal, just cannot seem to take a deep breath on demand.

I was diagnosed seven years ago and had to use supplemental oxygen. Six months later I did not need oxygen but over the last year I too have had shortness of breath’s and I’m now back Oxygen hope that this too will pass

Hi I was diagnosed a few years ago and also was breathless. I use 2 inhalers and get on ok now. At least they are giving you attention and trying to find out what is wrong. Good luck 😉. Lynn

Have they tried you different inhalers? I hope you get some answers soon.

Grannyk suggested you join the British Lung Foundation in health unlocked. You might get more responses from there, however their medical system is very different from the ours here in the US. The other problem is that once you join that one, the emails about new posts on the US site stop. I live in the US but joined the British health unlocked in order to answer someone's question. Now every email I get from this site has all British posts, I'm not seeing any from the US side.
