How can I improve this or is this always going to be the case now?

After reading your other posts you recently had chest infections and quit smoking. Noisy breathing or wheezing is a symptom of COPD, and also a symptom of a quitting smoker. As a recent quitter it may take a while to clear out some of that junk from smoking, also as a smoker it takes a very long time to recover from chest infections. If you stay quit and do some exercise and activity you may find all these symptoms go away, or are barely noticeable.

thankyou for ur reply I’ve been definitely trying to be more active trying not to sit down much when at home my breathlessness has definitely improved but my breathing sounds and cough seems worse now after my having a recent cold which didn’t end up on my chest, I quit smoking about 4-5 months ago when I got my first chest infection would it still be the case, even thou it was a while ago, hope it does go away I sometimes sound like am on my death bed but I feel ok, would the loud noises when breathing mean am in a later stage? Awaiting respiratory clinic at the moment I supposed to be going away on holiday in two weeks to Malta am really scared about flying with my breathing and also I’ve been having high blood pressure have bought some flight socks what else could I do any advice what I could ask doc xx

Hi, I remember when I first quit smoking, the same thing happened to me. Sounds like you're moving in the right direction with moving more & fortunately you're seeing good effects for that. I found that drinking a lot of water helps with the congestion. I also learned that pineapple juice is good for that cuz it has an enzyme in it that has an anti-inflammatory in it & helps congestion. Walking is also good. Remember that you're not running a marathon, but taking one step at a time. I'm praying you find relief soon.

God bless, Terri

Thankyou Terri really appreciate your advice I heard pineapple is good, but since all this started happening with my breathing I’ve had to start on anti depressants to help me deal with everyday life as am struggling to deal with things, and on the tablets it says don’t have pineapple 😩 will stick with water thou. Would you say ur breathings better now Terri since quitting? If so how long did it take for you to start feeling better? Sorry for all the questions hope u don’t mind me asking, xx

Lea, never a need to apologize for questions. We all have them & this is the place to find answers. It's hard to figure how long before I felt relief in my breathing. I quit smoking over 25 years ago. I do have struggles breathing sometimes, but it's though due to asthma exacerbation & meds that don't agree with me. My pulmonary doctor has advised me of what meds to increase when this happens. Everyone with copd can experience the same symptoms but react differently. Not all of us respond the same. Sometimes it's a matter of trying & waiting. Your doctor would be the best one to reach out to for specific changes you can make. I hope this was helpful.

Thanks Terri Wow so that’s a long time you stopped smoking, were you getting problems with ur breathing before you quit and this encouraged you to stop due to ur asthma? am feeling this at the moment am sure the inhalers aren’t helping me either will let the hospital no when I see them hopefully I don’t have to wait to long xx

No, I actually didn't get diagnosed with asthma til 3 years ago. I gave up smoking because I had a persistant cough that left me after I quit. Maybe you should set up an appointment to be seen about how the inhalent is working for you. Take it slow.

Yes I will do hopefully will find the right one, yes this was the reason for me 2 I had a cough but I was ignoring it for a while but I was always stopping and starting and wouldn’t spoke at the weekend or round my kids so always thought that was the reason for my cough and then I started worrying about my cough as it seemed to be getting worse then came down with x2 chest infections one after another I’ve never felt so poorly before it was horrible, haven’t been right since then. It made me stop smoking straight away can’t believe I’ve done this to myself and to my children. Thankyou for listening to me Terri and for ur advice I will definitely take it xx

Doesn't help to think: would have, could have, should have. That keeps us stuck in the past. Glad you're looking forward, enjoying your children & doing all you can to make good choices that will improve your health. Keep cool. Not sure where you are, but the temps here

( Massachusets) are high 90°, feel like temp up to 106°. God bless. 🙏
