Does your mom have heart problems, it sounds to me like she is retaining fluid which happens with the heart. She should be on fluid pills to help get rid of the fluid and keep it in control. Try elevating the bottom of bed just a little to see if that helps.

Hi Lorbic thanks for reply. Yes mom also has AF which is irregular heart rate & she is on water tablets they up the dose each time her legs swell but then this affects the liver. It seems cure one thing with meds then it causes another unfortunately regards Jan x

HI, My mother suffered with swelling on her ankles and lower legs which came on quite quickly over a period of a few months. The swelling turned to worse things and it got to the point she could not walk far at all because of this and even took to sleeping in a chair as it was to much for her to go to bed. Please take care of her and keep an eye on things to do with the liver. I say this not to worry you but because in my mothers case the liver suffered the most and she died last June of Liver cancer.

I am sure that your mothers case is not the same as my mothers because of the other issues that she as which were very different to my mothers but it pays to cover all bases.

I wish you well and hope that all gets sorted soon.

Andrew

Hi Andrew thanks for your reply, so sorry for your loss, so sad to lose a loved one. Mom has had 3 falls in a week and funnily enough the swelling has disappeared due to her being in bed with her feet raised although it has left pockets of fluid/blisters on her legs which district nurse are keeping an eye on. They do say the liver is affected by furosemide tablets. Yes she has many problems COPD & AF she is 94, & looks like she has been in a fight with Tyson!! Its so very hard watching her suffer in & out of hospital. I do hope you are getting support & I wish you well.

Regards Jan x
