I'm sorry for your dad. This has to have been rough for you. I've gone through two episodes like that and it really puts you down. I made it home but it left me so week. I think when he gets home it's important for him to do his breathing treatment. I'll be keeping him and you and other family in my prayers. God Bless!!!

Any good news is a blessing from God. I was in hospital about 2 months ago for 5 days and was relieved to be able to go home. I will keep you and your Dad in my prayers that he can go home for Christmas! Keep your faith! God is good!

Did he have heart surgery after 2012? There is a serious infection called "NTM" which was infected in the machines (at the factory) that keep the blood at the proper temperature during the surgery. Very tough infection to beat I had quad bypass Nov 2014 and had to have multiple tests, so far they are negative, but it can take several years for it to show. Even if he has not had the heart surgery, you should have them test him for NTM. Google it to find out more about it. It occurs all around us in nature also, and people who are not well, such as having COPD, are more susceptible to NTM.

Thank you for your reply. No he did not have heart surgery after 2012 but im going to ask them about it. Thank you very much

When my husband was hospitalized in he Spring he had an infection that required an Infectious Disease Dr. May request on of them.

Hope he finds the right antibiotic soon.

Hello and thank you for your reply. How did your husband get on and what age was he? How did they beat infection? The doctor told me last resort they will out dad on a ventelator and put him to sleep and go and try to clean his lungs. I think thats very risky. Dont know what to do :(

in reply to

When my husband had the endoscopy ( the cleaning out of the lungs) it was immediate relief. The dr. also looked around the lungs while in there and told me there were no signs of Cancer. That in its self was a relief. With antibiotics and steroids we have been infection free since June. Hope to keep it that way. Good luck. The endoscopy is fast and really seemed to help us. Hope it does you too.

Once he is feeling better have him blow up a balloon a couple of times a day. It will strengthen his lungs and really seems to help. No drugs or side effects so it is a safe thing to try.

Certain antibiotics have become resistant to some strains of bacteria. They need to keep trying until they fine one that works ..My doctor use Leviqune

I am so sorry for all you've been through with your dad. He was blessed to have such a son, concerned for his health & mostly praying for him daily. I can identify with your loss. In 2016, my husband passed away, my dad4 months later & I got diagnosed with copd 1 month after that......after 2 months of struggling to breath. But God! I thank Him that He's in our lives. He loves you & has a plan for you...for hope & a future. Grieving loss of loved ones is so hard, but God gives the comfort & peace we need. I think of the welcoming committee I'll have some day, saying " welcome home" . And I think of your dad being home with Jesus during this special season. I'll be praying for you, as you go forward trusting in the Lord & remembering all those precious moments that God gave you & your dad. God bless.

Joyful4u thank you so so much for your kind words. We will all get together on that special day in heaven and our tears will be wiped away forever. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your husband and dear dad. Take comfort sister in knowing that they are all waiting for us to return home. The peace that surpasses all understanding will be with us until that day and I will continue to pray for you. JESUS HAS RISEN.

My dad had COPD too. I also have it currently already worse than my dad's was. I wish I could be more encouraging, but I must speak (or write) the truth. COPD has only one end. It is not curable and can only continue to get worse. Faster if the person is still smoking. But, have courage. He is still here. Bond and enjoy him as much as you can while you can. Anti-biotics to help the lungs can be not as helpful as one would hope. In many cases they do help, but in some..... Love your dad. Consider talking to the hospital's chaplain. They can help you get through this. I will add you to my prayers. God Bless you and your dad and your family.
