I've had copd for around 10 years now. Oxygen 24/7. Three months ago I couldn't walk from one room to another without resting. Then 9 weeks ago I had lung volume reduction surgery. Yesterday I walked 6.17 miles. Unbelieveable the difference. I feel like someone lifted the elephant off my chest.

Where they go in and remove the damaged areas of the lungs. It helps to move oxygen much easier, and it doesn't strain your heart as it did before. Gives you back your freedom to live without oxygen.

Wow I think that is what am having done, am having lots of tests then I will see the lung surgeons Again, I would love to have my freedom again, life is no joke like this , but yet the Government Stopped y money in March , had to go to Tribunal on the 10th of June , with all that up and down to the advice bureau and had to go and sign on am absolutely traumatised with every thing , I won my appeal but I really did not need all that on top of my illness l have copd and lupus, thank you for explaining the lung volume reduction, doctors did tell me but with all that carry on with the Government I could not concentrate , kdawn611 did you say you had it done already ? Yeah, it was done 9 weeks ago. Feel great. Can't believe the difference. according to my iPhone I am average 13,814 steps a day. Now that is still with oxygen but I couldn't do 1000 steps with oxygen before the operation.

Wow! That is so great! I see that your post was a year ago. Hope you are doing well. I need to find another pulmonary doctor. Mine didn't even approve me for sedation for a colonoscopy! Said I had to avoid surgery of any kind. My lungs are at 54% When I had my 1st PFT test it was 46%...I quit smoking, started eating healthier, and making myself exercise (something I never liked to do before!)

Anyway, gaining improvement from my changes gave me hope. Would love to find out more about reduction surgery...it's kind of scary sounding. Thanks!

My emphysema had pretty much destroy the upper part of my lungs. They cut away the bad part ,which was about 20 percent of my lungs. This allows the rest of my lungs to work more efficiently.

How much before and after care do you need?

Pulmonary rehab for 3 months before and I couldn't drive for a month afterwards because of pain med.

I would love to talk to my doctor about this was it your pulmonary doctor that suggested and preformed the surgery? I have only been diagnosed this year but my whole life is over because of it. Any info would be great. Thanks

Wow that is great , glad u feel better I wouldn't wish COPD on anyone good to hear someone is getting a second chance I hate this dam nose hose 24/7 at night I use and I trilogy machine with a mask to keep that co2 down , I will look into that deduction surgery how was the healing ?

A little soreness but not really all that bad.

Well î"ve had it for 13 years I get pretty short winded but hit my inhaler lasts so long I do oxygen at night God is good to us in guess I'm not a candidate for it yet I had aortic valve replacement Dec 2015 they said that might help my breathing did for a little while but not now but still going I'm happy for you God Bless you
