I saw my new GP yesterday and he knew what CMT was, he didn't need to google it :)

Hi Ulrich - Fortunately it is slowly becoming better known. I was lucky in that my GP is also a trained neurologist and spotted my symptoms before I had any serious problems. Interestingly, my daughter is studying dentistry at Cardiff University where their first year is largely shared with the medical students. One of the very first lectures she attended was on neurological issues and the particular subject, from many possibilities, happened to be CMT. She was the only student who'd ever heard if it!

My wifes cousin who is a retired podiatrist said that he had never come across a patient with it.

I find that so strange in his profession.

The podiatrists at the clinic at my local hospital are much the same.

My wife gets her feet done by podiatry students at a local college. She has out of interest asked third year ones about CMT and they are not informed on it.

Hi Malc, I once walked into a clinic that specialised in sport injuries, I had only taken half a dozen paces into the place and a passing doctor said to me "CMT is my guess" He ended up doing my elbow surgery but as you say, its still hit & miss out there.

I had that same instant diagnosis from a neurologist who specialises in CMT. I told him that I had genetic testing and nerve conduction tests the year before that did not come to that conclusion. He said did they do the right tests, did they interpret them correctly ?

I said that I believe I have neuropathy caused my having been prescribed Cipro and Flouroquinolones after cardiac surgery and for prostatitis. Good theory he said but you will never prove it.
