Has anyone found any footwear that surports a rolling ankle? I have cmt 1a. 63 year old and unable to find boots or shoes. I did have a pair of shoes made at hospital but couldnt wear them at all. I have had many operations as a child which have left my feet very sensitive. Never been able t wear even a low heel. Any ideas?

Hi Chloe. My suggestions are hightop tennis shoes, and if you arent already using...get fitted for the leg braces.

I have similar & I'm 61, I find strong workbooks like dr Martens help or Blundstone but I suppose any with strong fabric that you can do up tightly. I find ankles that roll are harder to manage & I've heard aren't so good with ankle braces. Look up AFO's on the internet Ankle Foot orthotics, there's loads of sorts that might help, your dr might be able to refer you for some

Thanx for your reply. I have found sandles i can wear in the summer made by waldlaufer called dynamics. The sole has a good rolling action. Sadly can only get them on the internet. Expensive but so worth it .

I like that rolling action too, & also find that good quality shoes can help

Have you tried Joseph Siebel. I swear by them. Again expensive but really comfy for me. Good luck

Hi, Chloe,

I used to buy lace-up shoes from a small firm called Guat (guatshoes.co.uk/ ) who makes shoes and boots to order (get someone to draw round your feet and send them the drawings) - they do wider fittings than Hotter - but maybe you are fortunate enough to have normal-width feet. I wore them with off-the-shelf ankle supports provided by the Orthotics Dept at my local NHS hospital. The ankle supports - first elastic and Velcro jobs and later semi-rigid lace-up supports helped a bit. At that stage I realised bought shoes no longer fitted my bent toes, and now I wear NHS ankle boots with rigid plastic AFOs - both are surprisingly comfortable, though hardly elegant.

Good luck with your quest.

I have a pair of north face walking boots which are mid ankle, they are quite expensive but are the best purchase I have made it’s been so nice not having to constantly think about how I plant my foot down when walking

I have some timberland boots with flexi sole. So light and comfortable! Pricey but best investment I’ve made
