Elbow pain...?

Hi lovely people. I am not officially diagnosed yet but my neurologist and physiotherapist are pretty confident that I have CMT. My symptoms started in my left leg a couple of years ago, and are now showing in the right side too.

For a few months now, I have had a really odd pain in both elbows. It is a tiny pinprick area on the round bump on the inside of the elbow if you know what I mean, and feels like the most ridiculously painful bruise. Has anyone else experienced this? I can't help but wonder if its the next phase of this bloody well horrible, inconvenient, uninvited disease, or if I am jumping at shadows......

Words of wisdom gratefully received ☺

Hi DaisyDuke. The elbow pain you describe is a new one on me. I have CMT and, for the last decade, have been reading every post and article I can find on the subject. In that time I have never heard anything like that mentioned before. I think it's quite unlikely to be directly attributable to your CMT, if your diagnosis is confirmed, as that's not the way CMT works. Best regards Bo :-)

Hi Daisy, how horrible to have such a nasty pain! I get similar, but not identical. I always have a kind of dull pain all over the bottom half of my legs and arms & on top of that I get weird extras at times. At the moment for the last few days I have felt like someone has hammered a nail into my big toe, from the top to the bottom, plus the ball of my foot feels like its been trodden on by an elephant.

I was trying to decide if I should go riding, as I usually do on Mondays, with the RDA. I did and am glad for it, especially since the alternative means just staying at home. Hopefully these pains will ease in time, although probably relocate is more likely.

I'm sorry I haven't been much help to you, but I wish you all the best,

Lynne

Hi, this is my first visit to this site, I was diagnosed with CMT about 8 years ago. I have had surgery on my right foot & wear SAFOs on both feet. I have recently been having pain & aching in both hands & believe it or not pain in my elbows. I came to this site to ask for info about the elbow pain & couldn't believe it when I saw your post. I have spoken to my GP about it & he has put me on gabapentin, it doesn't seem to be making any difference so I need to talk to the GP again. I'm sorry that you're having this pain but maybe it is linked to CMT & just another thing to deal with. Try talking to your GP & let me know if you find a magic cure!!

Keep positive x Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Im on Gabapentin too....ive slowly worked up to 600mg 3 times a day and co codamol on top oc that to deal with originally lower back pain whoch has now spread so I alaso have back pain like an insanely tight bra would give you across your back. The Gabapentin etc was holding me and had been for a year but this elbow business was something else. The only the only thing I found that touched it was a brief spell on Tramadol as my tolerance to co codamol is obs growing but that made me feel so sick I decided to deal with break through pain a little longer.

My right foot has very suddenly deteriorated over the last week so im in the middle of the emotional himp of learning to cope with the next stage of my being the new me.

I bloody hate it.

Sorry, not having a very positive day today but hi and thank you all for answering xxx

Hi, you're on a higher dose of gabapentin than me but like you said I need to build it up slowly, also taking naproxen for lower back pain, we seem to have similar areas of pain! I'm trying to get used to the new SAFOs which I had to fund myself, so there goes my holiday this year!! You sound like you're having a tough time at the moment but you have to try not to let it get you down, I find having a good cry to myself helps then I pull myself together & carry on. Have you got any support? Also do you go to any of the support groups? I don't know of any in my area, I live in Oxford so if you know one near me please let me know.

I know sometimes it's rubbish but try to stay positive.

Thanks for replying

Lisa x
