I sympathise. I felt awful when I had to give up my job. There are a lot of people out there who look on people as scroungers which doesn't help. My parents told me to go out and find a job and not come home until I did! This was after I refused to go to my first place of work because of a dangerous flight of steps I could have so easily fallen down. Good luck anyway. 😔

If anyone branded me with that I would knock them into next week, having served in the Army for 10years and have volunteered for service charity and still do this illness has made me very bitter towards my father.............I'm down but not out

Hoi !

Barry52>>>>

Your threatened physical violence solution, from you is today totally unacceptable !

Or, perhaps has your 10 years service in the army, has taught you to solve your problems by violence ? ? ?

i know it is very difficult to resign yourself to the fact that you cannot work any longer this happened to me 2 years ago following further surgery after which I contracted MRSA which left me with chronic fatigue so coupled with the CMT and other health problems I decided with advice from my GP and my employer to give up work. I would say though that I am now 59 years of age and have managed to work up to this point so hang in there Barry it may be that there is something out there that you could still do so stay positive

Hello to Barry 52 !

I personally struggle to understand why your current illness has made made you so very bitter towards your father ? ? ?

Surely your mother who carried you, and delivered you, has an equally important role leading up to your birth ?

Today, your understandible frustration(s), are most evident, and is shared by all of your fellow (30,000) Cmt sufferer's in the UK :

Yes!

God ! has dealt us all a most "difficult-hand" as UK citizens who have, this "progressively-worsening" neurological Cmt disease :

Please do not "blame" your beloved father for you inheriting this Cmt disease !

Management > YOUR own "Positive-Mental-Mangement" is the only way forward ?

Accept what you have got, and apply your own most 'positive' mental attitudeand response to this Cmt disease:

Just tell Cmt, you can just "p-ss-off" as you certainly , 'ain't gonna' beat me !

Sadly employers dispite all the BLAH don't look at it that way,and sadly being positive don't pay the bills

maybe you should say thanks to the occup health as it is they who have deemed you unfit to work not your parents

Hi Barry

I've read your post a few times over the past days and please don't let anger and bitterness take over as it is a waste of your time and energy. Your Father may have been lovely, or vile, but whichever, he didnt get to choose whether to pass CMT onto you. You got to have 10 years in the army - there are loads of CMT sufferers like me, who didn't get the option to have a career in the forces because they couldn't physically manage and had to choose a career which they could cope with. I hope however challenging life gets for you, perhaps you can appreciate what you have managed to achieve in life and can go on to do so, just in a different way than you'd planned. Sorry if I sound a bit 'Pollyanna', but With CMT being a hereditary condition, most people who use this forum have been passed the condition by a loved one and many experience the guilt you feel when you realise you have passed it onto someone you love. Believe me, I can outdo any bitterness and anger you feel with the guilt trip I give myself when I watch my son struggling daily to keep up with his friends in his AFOs.

Please don't take my bitternes and anger to heart it is at present the only way for me to deal with this,I realise that having had a time in the forces, then prison officer and now still working with offenders or was, just miss the life I had,on top of this I just lost my 17yr old Border Collie,my old running partner.

Thank you for your kind remarks and wish you and your son well

Thanks

Barry

I am sorry you lost your dog I know how hard it is to lose a dog. I chose dogs to be my 'family' but sadly they die too soon and you are left with a massive void! I had three border collies at one time, two had to be pts on the same day and it almost destroyed me. Then come the comments like 'it's only a dog' and 'you can get another'...thanks!!

I also feel very bitter towards my dad although now no longer here and wasn't the 'carrier' of cmt he would always tell my mother that if Germany had won the war we would have all gone to the gas chambers! I have always struggled to come to terms with his nastiness!
