Vitamin D!

Hi

I have HNPP and diabetes and now I have had a letter from my GP to go see the nurse regarding my vitamin D levels!! They won't tell me if they are up/down, I have to wait now til Wedensday when I go see the nurse. The thing I would like to ask anyone out there is...... Can HNPP or Diabetes cause any Vitamin levels to go high/low?

I know my HNPP has got really bad as I am getting pains everywhere now and it takes me so long to get comfy in bed at night.

I don't think to be honest that my GP ever looks into my HNPP to see if this disease could be causing these problems! Also I think it's because my GP doesn't even know what it is exactly!!

can anybody enlighten me on this Vitamin D stuff, it will be greatly appreciated before I go to see the nurse on Wednesday.

Thanks everyone Pam.

Hello to Pam49.....

In your recent post on 'Health-Unlocked', you did not confirm, exactly what type of diabetes that you actually have ?

a) Type 1 is treated by daily injections of insulin, and requires very close monitoring !

b) Type 2 is treated by diet, and prescribed medication/drugs/lifestyle changes :

Also, what brought your vitamin D levels to your doctors attention ?

A few years ago my Consultant Neurologist, confirmed to me, that there is no "proven" medical link between Diabetes, and Cmt + HNPP:                                           I also had inherited, Cmt Disease (Cmt-Type 1A) from my father:

Yes, HNPP is somewhat similar to the symptoms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease :

Your question is,

Can HNPP or Diabetes cause any Vitamin D levels to go high/low ?

Answer is ? Possibly ? as many women suffer from low vitamin levels of D3 :

Your body must have vitamin D to absorb calcium, and promote bone growth, as too little vitamin D results in soft bones, and fragile, misshapen bones in adults (osteomalacia). You also need vitamin D for other important body functions.

Vitamin D3 is also called the "Sunshine-Vitamin":                                                           The recommended form of vitamin D is vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol.                   This is the natural form of vitamin D that your body makes from sunlight. However, a clinical study reported suggested that vitamin D2 works as well as vitamin D3.

These studies now show that people with higher levels of vitamin D most certainly have a "LOWER" risk of disease, although they do not definitively prove that lack of vitamin D does cause disease -- or that any vitamin D supplements would lower risk:

Let us all know how you got on !

Best of luck.....

Hi Pam. Just wonder If you have found out anything about vitamin d deficiency. Yes cmt and it can go hand in hand. My vitamin d is only 10. Fortunately we can take supplements to help bring up the levels to help a bit with the bone pain. Any information you can give me Will be brilliant
