Hi,

The high arches can be an indication of CMT but the best way to find out is to speak to your GP and discuss it with them and possibly they will refer you to the neurologist for some further tests and also a genetic blood test would be needed to determine for sure if it is CMT. It is not always so easy to determine what type of CMT people have and some never know. The most common type is Type 1A.

I would suggest that speaking to your GP should be the first port of call and explain your possible worries and if you have a good doctor they will listen and know more.

Best of luck.

Hi, Sparksmark,

If you have family members with CMT, it could be an indication that CMT may be what is responsible for your neuropathy and high arches.- as it is usually inherited.

I certainly agree with UTTERJOY4 the only way CMT can be diagnosed properly is by genetic testing and your first point of call would be your gp. CMT affects people in very different ways in my case i have the hammer toes very high arches and also severe joint problems mainly lower limb but in my son's case although he has the problems with the feet and high arches which affects his gait he is more affected by his hands etc.

Hello to Sparksmark .....

Your recent diagnoisis of, small fibre axonal nueropathy, does not automatically confirm that you may have Charcot Marie Tooth Disease (C.M.T.) :

C.M.T. is a "INHERITED" neurological disease where the peripheral nerves which are "wrapped" around by a wax like substance called 'MYELIN' : This myelin (insulation) is defective, and therefore causes 'LEAKS', that result in your nerve impulses/signals flowing "TO AND FROM" your brain are greatly reduced in strength>(velocity/speed):

Therefore as a result over a very 'LONG' period your muscles will start to waste, and your walking, and balance will be seriously affected !

The health professionals prefer to call this disease,

H.M.S.N.

HEREDITARY (passed from parent to offspring) :

MOTOR (nerves that send command/action signals, brain to muscles)

SENSORY (nerves that send touch/feelings signals, fingers'toes etc, to brain)

NEUROPATHY (any damage to nerves) ; Peripheral nerves are, near to your skins surfaces :

Your own current condition causes a burning pain, and sensation to your lower limbs, i.e, feet/toes skin, surfaces :

See your G.P. and request a referral to a NHS NEUROLOGIST, who should arrange >

* Complete physical examination:

* Plus a complete family history:

* Also consider, Genetic Counselling ?

* Nerve Conduction Testing. (a very uncomfortable procedure), where your actual nerve speeds are revealed :

* Blood Tests, where phials of blood are usually sent to a specialist University Laboratory :

(Takes 6 weeks for results to come back + extremely expensive for N.H.S. (circa £8,000) :

Best of luck + good health >>>

Hello to nikkiogi>>>>

Sorry I am not a Doctor, or a G.P.

As a 70 year retired Cmt Type 1A sufferer, I inherited this disease from my father, who had two "full-blown" Club-Feet:

I have researched Charcot Marie Tooth (Cmt), and my main source of information is the Mayo Clinic in the USA:

Most regretably, both my son, and my daughter, have also inherited this most debiliatating of disease's:

At present my two teenage grandsons, "the-love-of-my-life", are now also displaying signs of Cmt:

Unfortunately the 15 year old, has been diagnosed with "scoliosis", a curvature of his spine, and he always says "dont worry Gramps, I'll will be okay" !

Best wishes, and good health.....

John (Glasgow)
