Nichole With An H!!

Not sure how this all works but I'm sure I'll catch on, to be honest I'm here to give support to others suffering like me. And to keep the positivity going, don't worry I don't think I'm amazing and going to make it all go away. Just here to help and hopefully get support where I can.

I wish we could all make it go away but sadly we just have to suck it up and get on with it

We do indeed, but it's how we deal with it that makes a difference.

Hi Nichole. Same here. I am managing to keep the worst at bay with exercise and by adapting my lifestyle, see My Story link, and anything you can suggest I will be very pleased to hear about.

Hi Nora,

At the moment I can't even go on my tippy toes without risking horrible pain. I have arthritis in my big right toe (sounds funny, I named him Arty Toe), where is yours?

Ouch to Arty Toe 😟. Knees cause me the most discomfort but, luckily, usually only when I am going up or down stairs, hills, etc. Hands too. I am busy doing extra exercises to strengthen thigh and forearm muscles which seem to be helping already.

Yes Arty toe needs some healing, that's great they're working for you. Do you do swimming too?

No, Nichole, I'm not a good swimmer and our local pool closed, but what with pilates, stretches and my cross trainer, I keep busy 😄

That's a shame, but it's great you're doing other things. Are you feeling good about it?

Hi Nichole (sorry it has taken me so long to respond). Yes, I do feel good about how much better I am if I apply myself and keep going. At least I am in charge. Have you seen the Arthritis Research Share Your Everyday campaign. If you go on the website, I am sure they will be interested in your story.

Hi,

Don't be sorry, it takes me a little while too. I am happy for you, yes nothing feels better than being in charge expecially when it comes to your body. No I haven't, I'll have a look. Thank you.

I wish mine was just in a toe. Generally it is everywhere then you get the flare ups which are really exciting!!

So what kind of exercises do you do? Do you have to use a stick sometimes? Sounds so painful, to be honest I hope you never get it in the toe, sounds like it would be a minor thing but it affects a lot.

I cycle 15 miles a week and vary swimming and the gym 3 times depending on weather.

Hi Nichole77

I forgot to add no stick yet but do have an all terrain Zimmer frame!

Nichole77 profile image
Nichole77 in reply to 1701A

Hoping it will be no stick ever, so you use the frame in the house and out and about? To be honest wouldn't a stick be easier or is the frame the best choice?

That's a nice amount of exercise, no just the stick. I now have problems with my knee and I'm not allowed to come off it untill my knee is better. I'm actually having acupuncture for my foot now, started the first treatment on Saturday.

I love arty toe ....

I have the same issue with my toes. My sister had a partial toe replacement.

Try this: after your shower or bath, dry your feet. Your toes should be quite warm and relatively supple. sitting down, take the big toe with your opposite hand, supporting your ankle with your the opposite knee and with the other hand. gently move the toe back and forward then left and right then around three times one way then three the other Repeat three times. Sounds a lot but takes less than a minute. Your other toe is probably a bit arthritic too so do the same with the other foot.

Arty toe loves you too.

A partial toe replacement, how does that work?

Ok, that sounds interesting. Does this help with the pain then and help keep it from getting worse?

I can remember when I broke my arm for the 2nd time in the 1970`s only having it taken out of plaster the week before any way I had to see a consultant who was riddled through with arthritis I heard him talking to another man with it ( no sep cubicles ) and he told him that if he couldn't cure him self what do you expect I can do,

fast forward 40 years I can appreciate what he was saying

in my own case I don't think that over 15 years being exposed to sulphuric acid aint helped with it
