Lifetime painkillers

Hi I,m henanbien and newly joined

I have to take painkillers every day for back pain. Also Calceos twice a day. Which means only water for two hours before and after taking it. It's an additional supplement for my Osteoporosis. I find this very impinging on my time and have to keep watching the clock. Does anyone else have to take this?

I was never given any instructions as to how to take my meds. I take them as soon as i get up , get everyone else sorted then have porridge. I see from reading posts that this is not advise for thyroid meds but i know i would end up forgetting if i dont stick to my routine. I have an alarm on my phone to remember evening tablet. Whatever keeps us well!!!!

My husband takes calceos for osteopenia and we have never been given these instructions. It does sound very restrictive.

I take calcium supplements myself and have to avoid the iron and zinc I also have to take and avoid taking it near thyroxine but these restrictions I understand. Not sure why you can only have water for 2 hours either side of calceos.

Through the 35 years I have had contact with medical teams the one constant is that there is no consistency between teams and instructions in one part of the country Re not reflected elsewhere.

I wouldn't not fit my medication in if stringent rules like these were needed

Dear Angela

I know it sounds restrictive. It is! But it does say about it in the instructions. Apparently it affects the absorption. As I had a recent back x ray and bone density scan, mine is very low. I broke my hip 18 months ago so I have to be very careful.

I am so sorry to read you have low bone density.

I think different products of Calcoes must have different inner leaflets as I cannot see anywhere on my husband's where it says water for 2 hours before and after the preparation. He was given his by the liver team in Leeds.

I have had an operation whereby I do not absorb minerals and vitamins at all well calcium and vitamin D being a real issue for me. For various reasons I have had to be proactive in my own care to avoid osteoporosis which would be a real danger for me. The amount of vitamin D in Calceos is really low and it's the vitamin D that is needed in the correct amounts in order for the calcium to be absorbed properly. Due to the amount of sunlight we get in the UK many many of us need to have vitamin D supplements. I ended up seeing an endocrinologist for mine and his recommendation was 20,000iu a month in summer and 40,000iu a month in winter but that was after my vitamin D levels had been measured. It's also imperative to know what your parathyroid PTH levels are as these show how the calcium is being leached from the bones

Getting me on the right dose of vitamin D and calcium made such a difference to the amount of aches and pains I had in my joints which I had just put down to the arthritis.

When you look vitamin D up online the best way is sunlight the endo did say 15 mins a day without sunscreen and not when it's at its hottest - seems to me a holiday in the sun on prescription would be just the ticket.

I hope you don't have any more breaks - it's my worst fear - hence me trying to get on top of my calcium and vit D - and hubby of course he really doesn't need any broken bones.

Take care

Hi I have also been taking Calceos for treatment of Osteoporosis but was never told about only drinking water for two hours. I take them when I wake in the morning and after dinner. They must be working because my bone density is increasing.

I,m so glad you're bone density is improving. If you look at the instructions under " Taking Calceos 500mg/400IU Chewable Tablets with food and drink It will explain. It's to do with the absorption.
