Hope this isn't Covid!

kitchengardener2 profile image

Sunday I had very sore throat and took some Night Nurse cold remedy before I went to bed. Tested clear for Covid. I slept well but my throat was still sore. I tested again and still clear. Got up this morning and my throat is not as sore but I coughed all night. Still testing clear. I don't feel ill just tired with coughing. We are booked to go away next week and we have waited nearly three years for this holiday. I would be gutted if anything stopped us going. Will stay in again today. Should I contact anyone, other than reporting my negative tests. I wouldn't be able to get any monoclonal antibodies, even assuming they are still available, without a positive test. Fed up isn't a strong enough statement!! My poor husband, he's fine, no symptoms at all.

I've had a bad cold since Friday thanks to Mrs ygtgo who brought it home from the school in which she works.

Seemingly, it's 'doing the rounds' in the district ... I recognise the ... 'I coughed all night' ... from your post.

I suggested a Night Nurse, but Mrs ygtgo vetoed the idea.

Hopefully it will clear up in time for your holiday.

There is certainly a nasty cold doing the rounds so probably is that although you would wonder where you got it if you haven't been socialising. Like myself I seem to recall you saying you were living life as a hermit so really hope you get away on holiday. As someone who always went away in winter I shall be following your experience closely.

Are there any circumstances in which you could have caught covid - i.e. indoors unmasked?

Being on Acalabrutinib, have you asked your CNS if you should come off the drug whilst fighting off a cold?

I have bought Envovid nasal spray , made by Israeli scientist and trialled successfully at St Barts. It was recommended by some people on the Evusheld FB page. I use it for hospital visits, dentist etc. Just another layer of protection for the plane. If it is good enough for St Bart's its good enough for me.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Alice, if my experience of covid is anything to go by I wouldn’t worry too much, the fact your sore throat is easing is a good sign, when I suffered covid my throat was terrible for a week, hopefully just a little cold, hope you get away next week and enjoy your much needed holiday.

sorry this was reply to kitchengardener not Eucalyptus.

Will ask CNS. Guessing I got it at the hospital last week when I saw the cardiologist. Sods law!!

I have an ECG this evening so hope I don't pick anything up either. What type of mask did you wear? Wondering if I should double up my FFP3

Silly enough to think that I could be ok with an ordinary mask. All the staff were wearing masks. In retrospect, I would suggest your FFP3.

These masks give us some protection just not 100%.

When my brother-in-law got Covid, he tested negative on the home test for several days but positive on the PCR Covid test.

There are a lot of weird viruses around the moment as well as covid. There’s definitely one causing a sore throat. Completely agree with above about keeping testing for covid, and let your unit know - so you can ask advice and whether anything has been going around. You are likely to be better next week if the sore throat has improved already so take it easy, look after yourself, and don’t give it to anyone who is going on holiday with you.

Got my fingers crossed. You still have a week to get better! X

if you could get a PCR, might help you get a better reliable answer. Could try swabbing the back of your throat and inside of checks instead of nose on a rapid test.

Thank you will do, practice nurse didn't think it was Covid but Dr ringing me.

Saw a nurse yesterday afternoon and doctor later prescribed antibiotics to fight a possible chest infection. So another day keeping warm.

Hi Alice.

This may or may not help, but my granddaughter (an Alice too!) was off school the end of last week and the beginning of this… not feeling ill as such, but constantly coughing at night and therefore very tired. Her sore throat only seemed to last a day.

Her teacher said that out of 29 in her class , there were 18 off sick with the same symptoms! 🤦‍♀️

There must be winter colds going around so, hopefully, you’ll recover quickly and be off on that very well-deserved holiday!

Wishing you good luck and good health,

Fran 🤞🏻

thanks Fran, my gp gave me antibiotics to take if I get worse. I do feel that I am a bit bunged up with a runny nose. Hopefully I will feel better by the weekend. My CNS Team advised only taking the antibiotics if the cough becomes productive. The antibiotics is fine with my Acalabrutinib.

Are you both well xx

Sounds like you’re on top of it… I’m sure you’ll be feeling better very soon.

Yes, thanks, we’re both well 😉
