Astra Zeneca ??

I am on watch and wait my lymphocytes are rising but not quite doubling . I am anemic but other than that ok . I had my first dose of Astra Zeneca the first week of February and experienced headaches body aches and had covid arm and four very large bruises appeared on my body without injuring myself . I had further blood tests and even though my platelets had fallen they weren’t at danger levels and my CNS. Suggested monitoring it . Having heard the news today I’m looking for an opinion as to whether I should question my second dose which is imminent. I am not a particularly paranoid person and have said during the last 12 months I would crawl on my hands and knees to get vaccinated. I suppose I’m just looking for reassurance so Thankyou to those who will read this post . I should add I’m of a certain age .. I won’t see 65 again 😊

I think the dangers of covid outweigh the dangers of any vaccine side effects. Since your doctor and/or CNS know your situation completely and exactly how much your platelets dropped, I would follow their advice over the advice of any of us.

I am guessing their advice will be, or already is, to move forward with the vaccine. I think with the side effects your report, that may or may not be related to the vaccine, that it would be perfectly appropriate to seek their advice.

I had some unexplained bruising and a drop in platelets too. But that happened for me last year, before my vaccine.

I had my first AZ dose on January 26th with minimal side effects. I am scheduled to have my second dose on Monday coming, April 12th. I am uMRD after 12 months on V&O and can remember being 65 years young. I have kept up with the reports on the poor antibody production on people with blood cancers following Covid vaccination and the twists and turns in the AZ story. As I read it I am in a low risk group for the AZ vaccine and a high risk group for a very poor outcome if I contract Covid. I continue to isolate, I see no reason to change just yet.

I will have the second jab becauses it gives me a possibility of some protection, maybe not much but as my Haematologist tells me "it's better than nothing". My chance of antibody creation has been further lowered by O infusions so I might well have to restart the vaccination process 6 months after the last infusion. That's OK, it might just improve on my "better than nothing". The Covid danger remains, having a second jab is a no-brainer for me.

All the best

Michael

The problem appears to come after the FIRST dose, and then about 4 days afterwards. There have been NO diagnosis of blood clots after second doses according to the expert interviewed on the Today program.

So as long as the first dose was without signs of any clots the second dose should be safe.

Dick

AZ first dose, second dose booked for next week.

I am a great fan of the BBC.

I had a long wait recently to see my Opthamologist and he was amused by my complaining about sitting for ages and being subjected to This Morning ! What mindless rubbish.

I'd ask my doctor about it, and follow their advice.

I think you need to speak to your doctor and discuss your reactions to the first dose. Only they can advise. My brother goes for his second dose today but he had blood taken two weeks ago for his regular monitoring and all was stable. He didn’t really have any side effects with the first dose. He doesn’t have low platelet levels at present.

They don’t have so much data on second doses and so I don’t think you can read too much into that.

Thankyou I have spoken to my dr this morning and she had arranged a blood test before the second jab to check my levels but she reiterated what had been said on this site it is better to get the vaccine than covid and as long as my bloods come favourable she advises me to ahead . So I will be taking up the offer and hot footing to the surgery when the call comes

Your age might be an advantage. The TV said its mostly young femails that have the blood clot problem. Germany stopped AZ vaccination in the under 60 group. A real mess, this whole matter is.
