Astra Zeneca - any reactions?

Mandy56 profile image
45 Replies

Or is it just me? Had it yesterday, aged 61. Within minutes I felt peculiar, also throat and eyes aching.

Perked up in the evening, though tired.

Very tired and headachy today. Hopefully it just means it’s just doing it’s job. I am so much more sensitive to all kinds of things since FCR two and a half years ago.

Anyway, small price to pay for not getting covid.

Hey! FCR done the same to me. I react to flu jabs now. The little bit of research I I've done, namely AZ after FCR - reactions variable. None severe, some none.I get AZ in 26hrs time.

Heard today on the airwaves AZ active against the Kent variant.

Take care.

Thanks for that Jig, always good to hear from you. Good luck when you have yours.

Morning! So 14hrs post AZ vaccine now. No reaction what so ever.

Last flu jabs I had since FCR I was feverish at 37.8° for 6 hrs, and rough for a few hours. Anticipated the same for AZ. As yet nothing.

Your reports of fatigue and headaches with the Oxford vaccine are two of the most common side effects for the vaccine, so no, it’s not just you.

I like to think any reaction we have is some sign of our immune system gearing up in response to an antigen that mimics covid, a good sign our immune system is engaged.

Jeff, I'd be interested to know if there's any evidence that side effects after a vaccination really are a good sign. i.e Do those who get strong side effects actually produce more antibodies?

I hope that lack of side effects doesn't mean we won't be making any antibodies.

Yes, this has been crossing my mind, too. I wish there was a straightforward test that could tell us definitely if we had any immunity to .COVID-19 Cx

PaulaS profile image
PaulaSVolunteer in reply to Psmithuk

Yes a simple reliable test would be so useful.

From what I've read, the tests all seem complicated and unreliable. I'm aware that our immunity doesn't just depend on antibodies, and there are many different sorts of antibodies. I get confused by it all.

Exactly so. It also about how the myriads of immune constituents "talk" to each other. We may have the IgG but if the Ls don't recognise them, or the communicating cytokine is not recognised, then the virus is not dealt with.Jig

PaulaSVolunteer in reply to JigFettler

Thanks Jig. I can see how complicated it is to test "immunity".

in reply to Psmithuk

I think one could be coming because there's been so much demand for one from vaccine recipients. I'm sure researchers and vaccine developers are also very interested. The most I've learned so far is that there are 5 immunoglobulins in our immune system, but I don't know if measuring those alone derives a meaningful test of our immune system's strength. The immune system is so complicated, it's a marvel how it all works together.

Very good point. Not sure there is. I am going to investigate (UK) I know there is work going on in the UK to track post Covid immunity after vaccination in CLLers. Only thing is participants won't get bespoke feedback. However from it, the test you allude may emerge. In time. Jig

I am sure no reaction is not evidence that it has not worked, any more than a reaction evidences that it has given immunity. If you follow me...Many are getting immunity from silent Covid infection with no symptoms after all.

Thanks Jig. Good point about people getting immunity from silent Covid with no symptoms..

And a host of other infections. It's a fact our immune systems are continuously working flat out on many infections simultaneously. It's what it does. A multitasking miracle. Jig

Had my Astra Zeneca 4 hours ago, incredibly thirsty and tired but have no temperature, but relieved that I have finally had the vaccine! I am nearly in my 5 th year of Ibrutinib and in my fifties .

Have got up today and feel “spaced out”, temperature is 37.9 and glands are enlarged in my neck. Still incredibly thirsty. Obviously a pyjama day.

I wonder if this is an indication that our immune system is creating a future response?

I felt exactly the same as you and still don't feel good with swollen lymph nodes 3 days later and very tired but I do feel glad it was the vaccine and not Covid itself!

Had my Oxford vaccine last night , felt a little sick , slight headache & went to bed early. I have woken up this morning feeling fine , not even a sore arm , which is good as they popped vaccine in my broken wrist arm ..

Newdawn profile image

I actually wondered whether you’d have it in your broken arm side or the other Elaine. The reason I wondered, is I have a permanently sore shoulder from a fully torn rotator cuff on the right side so elected for the left. I’m wondering now if I should have kept all the discomfort on one side! 😉

I’ve been fine after my AZ jab but sore arm took 2 days to develop. Can’t say it’s too bothersome though.

I spoke to the paramedic who thought it was best to have in my broken wrist arm , so that I could sleep on my right side if I did have any soreness . He did advise that my arm wouldn’t swell up so thought best all in one arm . Only felt a bit off today no soreness as yet .. couldn’t of been easy for you with your shoulder.

Interesting that you got a sore arm 2 days after your AZ jab, Newdawn. It's now 2 days since I had my jab, and I woke this morning with a sore, tender arm. Can't lift it very high. It had felt fine for the first couple of days.

Like you though, I'm not that bothered. It will pass. :-)

Hi - I had AZ vaccine on Wednesday and felt dreadful the next day! Really like I had a day of flu. The morning was the worst. Aches, out of it, headache. I think the AZ & Pfizer jabs work in slightly different ways with AZ having slightly stronger response in terms of SE. Hope you are feeling better today. I was fine the second day. A mild ‘meh’ feeling but on the whole back to normal.

I had mine yesterday as well, this morning lymph nodes are up under the arm I had the injection in, and around the back of my neck on the same side. And my ear feels funny - which could be because that ear does feel funny sometimes, might not be related to vaccine. I feel fine apart from that - tired but I suffer a lot with fatigue anyway. Mine was AZ too. A friend who is also ECV but different reason, and she had hers yesterday, her ear also feels funny, and she feels tired but she also ok. I am just relieved to have had it, and to have had a reaction in my lymph nodes which implies they are doing something.

Take care, keep safe

Had my AZ jab a week ago. No side effects other than a slight ache in arm for 24 hrs. All good now !

All the staff at the vaccination centre were so wonderful. Not seen or been near this many people for so long and it felt great , even though I didn't know any of them lolx

I felt fine for the first day and lousy the 2nd - tired and not so hungry. After that Ive felt fine. 6 days on now. Definitely worth the discomfort. My father at 94 had no reaction to AZ at all, my mother at 77 a bit tired possibly. I'm 52 on w and w. I have a feeling younger pple get a reaction worse than older, but not something to worry about.

My sister (18 months older than me and both pensioners) wasn’t well after her AZ vaccination, so far (2 days) I have no side effects.

Hi, I had the Pfizer jab yesterday, I have also had covid, I had shivers all night, my body is aching, my eyes hurts and my head feels zuzzy! These are many of the symptoms I had when I had covid but on a lesser scale.

I'm sure you will feel better soon. 😊

My niece and nephew (both had COVID) had a rough time after their vaccination, and it was mentioned that those who had had it seemed to be getting more side effects. Hope it wears off very quickly x

Had AZ vaccine on Friday and have had no side effects at all which is unusual for me. In all previous vaccinations in my life I would get text book reactions. Being on Acalabrutinib this is now leaving me wondering if I will build any immunity. On a positive note it was good to go out and meet people even though we were all so masked up it was hard to recognise anyone. Even managed a little chat with my former retired GP who was a vaccine volunteer . How the little things in life now can bring joy.

Good to hear. I think people who have been treated with FCR tend to get more reactions to things.
