Ranitidine for improvement of vaccination

Reinhard profile image
7 Replies

I have had CLL for 21 years (15 years w&w, V+O 2015-2018 with mrd- remission in PB and bone marrow ).

Being a member of the forum that long I remember Terry Hamblin's recommendation to boost vaccination results by taking ranitidine for 90 days but havn't seen any posts referring to that in all the discussion about Covid19 vaccination.

What is your opinion... is it worth a try with the Covid19 vaccination?

Anyway it will not do much harm I think?

All the best

Reinhard

Hi Reinhard:-

Here are links to the two times that Prof Hamblin and Ranitidine were mentioned on this site.

And here are the times that Ranitidine was mentioned in Prof. Hamblin's blog postings:

From the comments on the first link above, it seems that idea has not gotten supporting evidence from controlled clinical trials etc.

ranitidine (Zantac) has been linked to cancer and pulled from store shelves. I use to eat that stuff like candy. So I don't think it will be recommended. Unless maybe next week they change their minds again.

I believe it was only one sort of Ranitidine that was withdrawn, johnl . It was something in the coating they used, not the active Ranitidine bit. I think other brands were OK.

P.S. I now realise that ALL brands of Ranitidine have now been withdrawn in most countries in the world, so what I said above was not correct. Apologies.

Thanks for that link, ClassyLady3. In the UK at first it was just some brands of Ranitidine that were withdrawn, but now I see that since last October all brands have been withdrawn here.

I'd be interested to know if there are similar, safer alternatives that are not PPIs (eg Lansoprazole).

Ranitidine has been removed from the market in most of the world due to the fact that it can degrade and produce a type of carcinogen called nitrosamines. I know it was withdrawn from the USA market earlier in 2020
