Imbrutinib side effects

Diagnosed in 2010. Started Imbrutinib Dec.19 after WBC reached 100,000. Got bronchitis on Jan. 2, pneumonia on Jan. 9. Oncologist said during Jan. 10 appointment that spleen and lymph nodes are down significantly and he was encouraged and

optimistic about getting CLL in remission.

However, yesterday I began feeling joint pain behind both knees, the side of both elbows and in several fingers on both hands. Took Tylenol and put ice packs on painful joints. This is very depressing. I have appointment with oncologist tomorrow.

Sorry you've been experiencing joint pain and so soon after your respiratory infections. Joint pain is fairly common with Ibrutinib. I, too have experienced this, and in my case, thankfully, it Does go away, or at least lessen a great deal. Hang in there. Ibrutinib Is a great drug, but we do get frequent reminders that everything has a price...😟

Yes, it means Ibrutinib is working and it's getting the CLL cells out of the bone marrow and into the blood stream where is will die. Make sure your drinking at least 3 pints of water a day.

Unfortunately those aches and pains seem to be a common side effect of ibrutinib. When I first started at 420mg I was having constant joint and muscle pain. Once my numbers were headed in the right direction, my oncologist reduced my dose to 280mg, then down to 140mg and I'm holding steady with all of my labs within normal limits. Dose reduction is not for everyone, but it could be an option for some depending on how they respond and the willingness of their specialist.

Wishing you wellness-Kim

Thanks kimiD! My knees and especially fingers hurt. Hoping doc reduces dosage, my numbers are improving. Good luck to you!
