Hi everyone. I think I may have found a solution to the poor condition of our nails and hang nail problems caused by taking Imbruvica. My husbands suffers with dry ,scaly and rough elbows. I can’t remember what the Dr. Said it was but she suggested he use Amalactin lotion. He has trouble with his shoulder so I rubbed the lotion on for him. I bought the CVS brand (SKIN TREATMENT body lotion) $17.00. The next day I noticed my hands and skin around my nails were soft and looked normal again. I started taking Biotin in March, which not only helped my thinning hair ,but has helped with my nails growing ,no more double nail and peeling, or painful skin irritations at the finger tips. This site has helped me along this CLL journey of mine so I’m hoping some of you will be helped by my recent find if you are taking Imbruvica.

I’ve been taking Biotin for about two years and Imbruvica for two and a half. My nails seem to go in waves. Hard and strong for a few months, then chipping and peeling for a bit. I don’t know what causes the difference. I am assuming that Biotin helps the situation so I will continue to take it. And it it helps with hair, then all the better!
Thanks, I’ve have significant problems with finger and toenails. Plus, the tips of my fingers are chapped and cracked. I’ve been using lip chap stick and hand lotion that has helped to a small degree. Further, my heels of my feet are surverely chapped which I rub foot lotion every night with no significant change. I will try your idea of biotin and the lotion. I also have bad GERD. Thank you
I have herd also. My hematologist took me off of omeprozole because h e said it affects platelets,so I take a capful of Mother’s Apple cider vinegar in a Dixie cup of water. This works for me. If you try this make sure u use enough water because could cause irritation. When my gerd acts up I start having to clear my throat constantly. Then I know it’s time for the vinegar. I have been doing this for about 2 yrs. I don’t drink coffee because that makes my gerd worse. I really only drink water, about 5 Poland spring bottles a day.
I have been using Amlactin for several years. Even though I drink 12 to 16 glasses of water a day I still have areas of dry skin. I’ve been on Ibrutinib for 4 months.
I have very dry skin on my face so I thought I would try the Amlactin. Let’s just say I thought my face was on fire 🤬

I know this is going to sound crazy. For my feet and hands I use Vicks Vapo rub. I put it on at night with cotton gloves and socks. It does wonders.
The bottle of Amalactin does not mention can be used on your face only hands, feet , elbows,knees,cuticles etc. I tried Vick’s for feet ,helped a little.
I take 2 capsules of 5,000 mcg. When I went to check , the bottle said to only take 1 capsule a day. But I have been having good luck so I’m going to keep up this dose along with the Amalactin. At least until there is no more nail pain. My hematologist/ oncologist told me it wouldn’t help and not to spend my money on the biotin. A man ,a patient, Mr. Wayne Welles, contacted me on behalf of the PAN Foundation when I received my grant. He called to ask if I had any questions about imbruvica, so I told him about the finger and nail pain. He sees Dr. Richard Furman ,a CLL specialist in New York and he said he told him to try 2 — 5,000 mcg biotin daily for his nail problems.
In combination with Biotin, any lotion that helps the cuticles are a plus. For this one, if you care about avoiding parabens, note that that Amlactin contains them in its ingredient list.
Interesting. On the CVS site, the ingredients are: Water, Ammonium Lactate, Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Laureth-4, PEG-40 Stearate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylcellulose. If the container states otherwise, maybe they just haven't updated the web site.
I used to take 6000mcg daily. Then an oncology dermatologist told me that the body can absorb only 2500mcg a day, and the rest is expensive pee. Since I buy them in 1000mcg per capsule, I now take 3000 daily. So far, so good.
My nails were not too bad but the finger tips were really painful. My finger tips would crack all the time. Bandaids with cream below them helped. I wash my hands too much which does not help.
I took biotin as well.
I got to MRD negative on the I plus V trial. So I randomized to either Imbruvica or a placebo.
I am pretty sure I am on a placebo now because my finger tips are so much better now.
Hopefully people will do combos in the future for a year or so and then be off all treatments for many years.
I have been balding even worse since I went on Imbruvica. Since I started Biotin around March of this year, I have noticed that my nails grow faster (and healthier), and that I am now sprouting new "fuzz" on my head. I'm 75, and don't have enough hair to really worry (or rejoice), but this is what is happening, and it is truly interesting.
I am not on Ibrutinib but my nails were splitting and brittle from chemo. I didn't want to take any supplements while doing chemo so I tried a nail polish that had biotin in it. From Nail Tek, has very light pinkish translucent color. It works great. I have to change polish every 3 days to keep the tips protected. You can use polish over it.
Hi Corkyrissa I have the same skin issues as your husband, and started using Amlactine many years ago. When I developed CLL, and went on Imbruvica, I also had/have the nail issues.
Also started using biotin around March of this year, and the combo seems to be working. Nails are healing, but still some splitting/peeling. Just recently I discovered that when I put Antibiotic creams on my skin, the creams also work on my broken nails. Don't know if it's just my cream, or if it might be any other antibiotic creams as well. Just make sure you notify your Drs so that they are aware of the additional Supplements.
I am on Ibrutinib and venetoclax and my nails are dry, peeling and very thin I have found everyone’s comments helpful and thought it was just my nails. Thanks everyone. Also am recovering from breast cancer surgery and doing well. Will start radiation in a few weeks. My wbc has stayed within normal range during my surgical experience. Thanks for all your good wishes
